how good it is depends on what you want to do with it, a ferrari 458 italia is useless for shopping in london.

edit-considering the price they cost when they came out they can be allot of fun for tuners now because if you push it beyond 4ghz with a billion volts and fry it...who cares, its the 1.6l honda civic engine of cpu's.
its plenty for web browsing, and capable of light gaming, if rendering and heavy gaming (where its weakest) was a priority it wouldnt of been bought in the first place.
i want 1 to play/test with. (or a sempron140)

Why ??

At the time of release it cost 66$ I believe. So its more like a pentium in terms of price. Performance is worse than most core 2 duos so don't expect too much from it.

It's not bad, but it's not great either.  I wouldn't expect it to be used for anything more than a machine for checking email.

a HEAVY OC.  I can't see that thing running any modern games, maybe games from 5-6 years ago tho.

Nah I'm broke, I got this rig as a gift from a friend that I built a rig for, I will be buying a GT 730, don't worry man I'm going to be fine.

yeah it'll do that, higher end games will be limited by the 730 before the cpu, older games might be cpu limited but they'll be more than playable anyway, id be interested in seeing your results.

what speed ram do you have?

if ddr3 1333 try 1066 in bios with a 250fsb and 1.425v and that should give you 3625mhz straight off the bat with ram running 1333. nice 25% speed boost. in games it'll probably give you maybe 2fps because that 730 is either going to be a gf108 gt430 fermi or a gt640 kepler 107 and at any decent resolution and settings will be the weakest link.

get on world of tanks maybe and medium at 900p?

in gaming gpu will be the main limit, any old single threaded game like cs;go will usually be around 150fps on the pentium so maybe "only" 100 on this so..

its a dual core and it takes allot more voltage to effect temps than say if you had a quad+core with bigger dies, thats why pentium k's overclock so well, its a tiny little 22nm dual core with a die size of 177mm2 wheras your athlon is only 117mm2.

oh ramp up resolution before settings untill aliasing becomes less of a problem.

ultra settings doesnt matter if those "ultra" textures cant be displayed properly if its only 600x400 to draw them on.

noone wants to play on low because at that point most games will turn off anything resembling decent graphics (bye bye shadows, anti-aliasing of any kind, textures, effects, lighting).

so aim for medium settings at 1366x768......still plays at 70fps? try 1600x900...60fps? try 1080p..40fps unplayable? revert to 1600x900. try it yourself.

The tuning of settings is what seperates us from the console-commoners #PCMR

No it's really bad and nowhere near an i3. For just surfing the net, YT, Facebook, netflicks etc it's fine. It's like a 1981 Honda Civic.
