Crucial MX100 256GB vs M550 256GB

Linemi
Go to solution Solved by Thorium19,

M550 is faster, and if they're the same price I'd get that, it's equivalent to the intel 730 ssd. If the MX100 is cheaper, go for that.

I've always wanted to upgrade my laptop with an SSD and this seems like a good a time as any.

So an online shop in my country is doing a sale on their M550 line, so the M550 256GB costs €99,90 and the MX100 256GB is €99,99(in a different, but also reliable webstore)

From what I can find the M550 lineup is a more enthousiast line, but when it comes to real benchmarks, the MX100 is equivalent most of the time.

Is there any real advantage to go with the M550 at the same price point?

edit: I'm not in a rush, should I wait on a sale on the MX100?

No, M550 has older technology and isn't as good. Go MX100

at the same price? no get the m550, it's a pinch faster. However I wouldn't say get either one. The m500 is a little slower but here in the US it's much cheaper than just about any ssd. None of these drives are on the bleeding edge so why not save money if you can? Try to see if there are good deals on the m500

This doesn't make sense now...

If you say that the MX100 is usually cheaper, but both SSDs are now at the same price, why would you pick the MX100 then, if the M550 is usually more expensive?

Also, it actually isn't. The link that I posted said the MX100 is around 14€ more expensive.

I'm totally confused now.

Edit: I mixed it up. My fault xD

Whichever is cheapest, and if they're all the same, the m550 is a touch faster. I actually got an m500 for $80 USD and couldn't be happier.

If they are ~ the same price the M550 is the way to go. If the price difference is significant (20 euros/$ or more) the mx100 all the way.

Derp moment...

Now I get it. They just have read the topic title and didn't notice that they both cost pretty much the same now and that's why everyone recommends the MX100.

So actually the M550 would be the better choice.
