Is a single GTX 970 at 3680x1440 enough for Witcher 3, GTA V - on Ultra

Zenin

Is a single GTX 970 at 3680x1440 enough for games like Witcher 3, GTA V playing on ultra with maybe 2xAA or no AA. I know GTA specs aren't released but what are your guesses? and how would witcher 3 fair.

Hope one on its own can get me 60fps, or would i need to SLI to achieve 60fps?

SLI is pretty much required for anything new at 4K

You won't get 60 FPS, but you'd get playable FPS. If you lower some settings you could probably hit 60 without impacting visual quality much.

i disagree you dont need anything more than 2aa so without aa you will get more than 60

Sure it looks great, but the game will run much smoother with some of those settings turned off, with much higher FPS.

Some sacrifices must be made.  -_-

Better off with an AMD R9 295x2 for 4K or multi screen. Nvidia not doing SLI very well, esp for more than 2 cards. A 295x2 + 290x in Trifinity is best for 4K actually, cards scale well. SLI in 900 series slacks scaling at 2-3 cards; 4 cards definitely not worth it (3 in SLI generally not, articles in HardOCP etc).

gta V probably yes, if mantle would be a thing for nvidia then definitely yes, however witcher3 maxed out at 4K - HELL NO!

If one does not fail at times, then one has not challenged himself.

  • 11 months later...

If anyone will ever see this since it's a year after last quote. Would a single 970 be enough for 2560x1080 and on what settings will it achieve 60fps average.?

You're better off buying a 980 ti instead of 2 970s.
