I have had a 2500k since they were first released, overclocked it to 4.8GHz, there is no more I can do with it.  I have the money to buy a z97 and 4790K but Broadwell is so close to coming out with Skylake coming hopefully some time this year.

I want more power now though:(

I might just buy a EVGA G2 850W just to scratch the itch(it's the only thing left for me to upgrade)

How do you guys deal with the itch?

I just look at the amount of money I have and say "This is not enough for an upgrade or whatever.."

Well, it sure is difficult. I just keep telling myself that i don't need more. Or try set a goal to buy something much more expensive like a car.

This is so me too...

Well I haven't had a desire to upgrade to the 900 series because it seems like a small jump. I went ahead with an upgrade from an 8350 to an i7-4790k because it was an actual upgrade, plus I wanted an i7 since earlier this year so I saved some money on the side.

I'm not exactly rolling in money but I do have quite a bit to build my PC up. A GTX 980 SLI isn't out of the question for cost, but it's out of the question of practicality for 1080p gaming. Plus, it isn't that large of a jump from a single GTX 780, not enough to spend $1,000 on it.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

i wouldn't do it. i 'upgraded' to a 3770K and its feels slower if anything! you don't really need more power unless you got a second gpu.

I curb it by thinking about buying the stuff I can't afford. I know I will never by it so I stop thinking about upgrades.

You get more ram....

Try setting a Road Map for yourself with a Ballpark Budget and a refresh target for each component:

2015 CPU/MoBo $500 Refresh every 5 years

2016 Better Storage $200 Refresh every 5 years

2017 GPU $500 Refresh every 3 years

2018 RAM $200 Refresh every 4 years

... etc.

Once you do that you can adjust and change as needed but having the Map can help you visualize your priorities, and you might be able to adjust to see when a BIG purchase is coming up for example, in my made up road-map above 2020 would be basically a full build.

a) this way you can plan for annual or even twice a year small upgrades to feed the itch

b) Setting a plan can help alleviate the itch for the big upgrades because you know it is on the horizon.
