Good Headset/Amp/Dac combo for gaming and audio?

Rohan.Le.Roux

Hi,

I'm very new to the specifics of audio, so I don't know many of the specific terms. I'm currently looking at a ~$100 pair of open headphones, specifically for gaming and audio/media consumption. I was quite interested in the Audio Technica ATHAD500X headphones, which are currently on sale @Amazon for ~$80. Was wondering what you guys would recommend. Secondly, I was also interested in coupling it with an AMP. I'm currently running an mITX system with a Z97-I motherboard, so I have no room for PCIE sound cards. I don't want to spend too much, preferably less than $50 if it is possible. I don't know much about AMPs, don't even know if I need one, but would obviously appreciate better audio.

Thanks for putting up with my lack of knowledge in this area!

880's are solid, and aren't that hard to run for most. Some prefer the 990's

Most headphones around $100-300 don't really need amp or scale very little with amp. HD518 or AD500x would be your choices I guess

Q701 most likely needs 1 tho. AKG always use dB/V in their spec. 105dbB/V of Q701 translates roughly to 93dB/mW. Pretty unefficient.
