Can i trust ebay? (UK)

MLG Doge

Because I don't make income and I'm planning my build, I've started to look at other options for a cheaper price. I looked at eBay and saw some great prices on things like GTX 760's etc, and instead of going for the same card or item at a lower price I had a look at 770's and found an used one (EVGA w/backplate) at the same price as a retail 760. Of course i was a bit wary and let it go.

So basically what should I look out for when buying on eBay?

I already know about not buying mined cards and 99% ratings

But is there anything else?

It's hard to pass up a bargain!

Look for ratings and always pay with paypal.

With ebay, you do have some sort of buyers protection I think... So if the item is damaged or not working you can get a refund, but it can turn out to be quite a hassle as the seller might be a Richard.

I've bought quite a few things off of Ebay and have yet to get the short end of the stick. That's where I got my 580, and I've gotten some good deals for some buddies from there.

How well does that 580 run modern titles (as in AAA games)

When you buy on eBay, it's not eBay that you're trusting, but the seller. Don't buy from any that have poor ratings, lots of negative feedback, etc.

Also look at the listing and how well hashed out it is. If they don't include a lot of info, or answer questions you ask them, avoid it.

Why are you going Nvidia? For that generation AMD cards are generally a much better buy.

If it's not working you're not always covered. If the seller states "sold as is" anywhere in the auction, you're out of luck.

My idea was that I would ask the seller to confirm the part was operational, then if they said yes I would screenshot it and save it as evidence should it be DOA.

And I was just using it as an example :D

I think it's about as good as a 270x. Ask @Bubblewhale.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

You should contact the seller about the card. And keep that record as evidence if there is an issue.

Nah, it's around the R9 285/280. I think the 760 is usually 10fps better in most non-mantle titles :)

I personally have had some bad experiences on Ebay, with some legit looking people (good ratings) and items turning out to be a scam. However Ebay / Paypal refunded me so all was good. But I have also had alot of good experiences on Ebay.

Just be wise on it, don't buy something expensive off someone with little to no /  poor feedback, don't buy obvious scams e.g A BNIB GTX 980 for less than £200, and make sure you go through Paypal. If you do that you should be fine!

Want to fuel your paranoia? Go to Youtube and search under Ebay+Scam. Lots of horror stories. For myself if I'm going to buy a video card that regularly sells for multiple hundreds of dollars I'll go through recognized retail channels-NCIX,Newegg, etc.
