Why I left GamerGate

Mooshi

In the end, we're gamers. We deserve games free of drama and shilling. Games that are fun and not agenda based or being edge for the sake of edge. No gimmicks, just good times.

ignorance is bliss man.  there are so, so, so, so many games out there that aren't involved in any of this.  Plus I stopped reading gaming media back in the gamecube days because it turned into crap.  I guess it hasn't got any better since then lol

Intel 4670K /w TT water 2.0 performer, GTX 1070FE, Gigabyte Z87X-DH3, Corsair HX750, 16GB Mushkin 1333mhz, Fractal R4 Windowed, Varmilo mint TKL, Logitech m310, HP Pavilion 23bw, Logitech 2.1 Speakers

Hatred is basically condensed GTA.

Nothing wrong with that.

Anyone who has a sister hates the fact that his sister isn't Kasugano Sora.
Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...

why can't everyone just love everyone else and let everyone play any game without such huge issues in the industry and in games

I understand that you might be tired of the extremism and tiresome endless repeating, but remember if we didn't say anything, you could potentially end up without any decent games to enjoy since the gaming press does have significant reach and if they are confirmed bought motherfuckers, well little games will never have a chance.

So no, sorry if it annoys you but I will continue to point out how biased the gaming press are at every turn just as much as I push people to get into PC gaming and support good devs like CD Projekt Red

I came in halfway through gamer gate and my opinion is that a reporter had a relationship with a games developer and f***ed up, which then brought up an issue that no one had noticed before.

We're all human, we make mistakes and the issue was resolved.

Move on please.

I never bothered to understand what all this '#GamerGate' stuff is about. (Basically anything that starts with a hashtag and ends with gate just seems like a desperate attempt to gain some attention by making a big deal out of something)

But now I decided to finally try and understand what all this is about because it has been going in for months now... Seriously we have it too good if those are the kind of problems we're dealing with today

Off-topic board is off-topic, but yeah. Been following for months and while there are important issues brought up, GG became the thing it hated in the long run. The monetized videos, Patreons and other projects while at the same time calling out SJWs for having Patreons and kickstarters..dat hypocrisy. Not only was that a turn-off, but so was hearing the same message on a daily basis that flooded my Twitter. In fact, I revived an old Twitter just to not have to see the same crap daily and actually focus on the /fun/ side of video games.

What probably bothers me more that is tied to the hypocrisy is the overwhelming support for the game "Hatred" from a lot of #GamerGate supporters. I'm sorry, but when your reasoning is "SJW tears" you're no better than they are. Gamers get a bad rep and to even want something like this that will only lead to more negative attention makes no sense. This pissing contest of spite is exactly why outsiders had a hard time seeing any ethics and dubbed the movement as a bunch of permavirgins taking video games too seriously. There /is/ corruption and there /is/ serious issues, that stuff I'm still against. The hashtag, though. It's morphed into something that was a potential force to shut down the likes of Gawker to being a clusterfuck of motives. I no longer feel the need to use #GamerGate anymore nor intend to log back into that Twitter account that gained 600+ followers. Not bad for someone who used to bash the site.

Just like with the political spectrum, I'm going to have to go independent here. I believe there are bad things that need to be addressed, but I can't go with team GG anymore. I'll always be an ally in a sense because of loathing of vile individuals profiting off lies such as Sarkeesian or trans-woman Brianna Wu. When you tell others they are privileged in a negative way while you have wealthy parents who gave you money on top of the internet from e-begging, you are scum. I'm sorry, but to be blunt you are scum. People like that are disgusting and of course I will speak against them. I don't need a label to have opinions and I will now keep things this way. It goes both ways, the people in GG who were profiting off it are also filth.

The fact you are making out like GamerGate is some sort of group is where it's hard to take you seriously. It isn't a group, it isn't some secret club, it's a general 'ideology' of sorts for wanting corruption out the industry.

Of course there are faggots making GG as a ideology look bad, but those people should be ignored. There are still people trying to change things for the better who support GG, so why not support that rather than just cancelling yourself out of the entire thing?

I'm glad you left GG, it's toxic. Don't let that fool you into thinking the "anti-GG" side (I call this the normal people side) is as toxic. Sarkeesian is merely a games/culture critic, and as for Brianna Wu, I've seen a few dumb tweets from her but it seems to be exaggerated about her "profiting from lies". In either case, stay critical of who you associate yourself with.

It's hard to explain, but gamergate is the reaction to Zoe Quinn's scandal where she traded sex favors in return for favorable reviews on her game Depression Quest. It's also protest against the state of video game journalism and the corruption in websites such as Kotaku, Polygon, IGN, etc. Gawker sites especially. The anti-gamergate movement, made up mainly of "feminists", tumblr users, and Social Justice Warriors, view gamergate as just an immature movement of manchildren. In reality, it's just a mess between GG and anti-gg.

While I still openly support Gamergate, I feel that it's gone from actual campaigning to make video game journalism honest to just a full blown "Fuck SJWs" circlejerk.

http://gamergateharassment.tumblr.com/ this blog showcases some of the stupidity and hypocrisy from the Anti-gamergate side.

I want to add that GG doesn't really have much to do with Zoe Quinn, but instead about the actual journalists themselves.

And yeah, the "Fuck SJWs" circlejerk, like I said above, really need to be ignored. They make the people who support GG look bad overall.

Why should devs bother to make their games good if they can just buy good review scores and positive journalism (with money or sex)? If that carries on, we'll see less and less good games.

If you're talking about Zoe Quinn when you mentioned sex, you realize that is something that Adam Baldwin and InternetAristrocrat lied/were misinformed about? It was never actually proven. Also, while the AAA game companies have issues with reviews and favors, GG instead focused on indie developers and instigated an enormous harassment campaign against female devs and people that spoke up for them. Keep in mind perspective, this is because the status quo of male dominance in games has been crumbling, games are much more inclusive to so many people now. You could say, in a way, that games have grown up. Unfortunately, a lot of gamers haven't, and you see this systemic problem obvious with the rise of GG and the far-right reactionary pundits that support it. Stay away from GG, play your games, and stop worrying about the evil SJW cabal (that doesn't actually exist).

I mean with the whole 'movement' and all.

We game to have fun, not to get into debates over such minor things.

I just wanna play my damn games without being called a misogynist over it.

There's also the fact that they've gone so far as to call gamers "a bunch of cry-baby neckbeards".

1. Show me the proof that Zoe Quinn traded sex favours for a good review, because this seems to indicate otherwise.

2. Why did you put the word feminist is quotations?

3. How can you point out that harassment towards Gamergate supporters, but not the disgusting things that were directed towards Zoe Quinn? Allow me to quote the article I just linked:

Quinn herself described the abuse as “the proliferation of nude pictures of me, death threats, vandalization, doxxing of my trans friends for having the audacity to converse with me publicly, harassment of friends and family and my friends’ family in addition to TOTALLY UNRELATED PEOPLE, sending my home address around, rape threats, memes about me being a whore, pressures to kill myself, slurs of every variety, fucking debates over what my genitals smell like,”

You talk about "campaigning to make video game journalism honest," yet you made an extremely one sided post. If you want to educate people about things, try to remain unbiased. That is proper journalism.

I'm so so sorry that some people called you that. It must be awful to be so oppressed and hated.

It would be so much better if someone just sent you rape threats, right?

Wow, you people just made some illogical jump right there.

When did I perpetuate any hate? When did I disparage anybody who had received serious threats over such an idiotic topic?

Fact is, there's people on both sides who are internet trolls, who are only getting a hard on from all the media coverage (any trolls dream) and you people are going to attack me because of such a punitive statement. Like really?

Sit down, kiddies, like I said, I just wanna play my damn games.

I never said that some of the things anti-Gamergate people are saying weren't terrible, both sides in this have said awful things. I was trying to make it known that being called a cry-baby neckbeard is small potatoes compared to rape threats.
