Sennheiser HD 600 vs Bowers & Wilkins P7

ThatFatMan1911

So as the title says, how would these two compare from one another? I think my Bose QC15's are starting to get speaker damage or something. They make an odd sound every time I touch the right ear cup.

Now, you know what you can expect from these barbarians. They are a race of rabid BASTARDS that will fight us tooth and nail! But they don't know what they're up against. Cyrodiil, is CIVILIZATION! Cyrodiil, is ORDER! Cyrodiil is POWER! And out here, WE. ARE. CYRODIIL.

The P7's are more of a fashion statement and don't sound as good. With the HD 600's you'll need an amp to make it show it's true potential so it'd be inconvenient bringing a portable amp around if you're planning to take it around instead of keeping it at home. It really depends if you're going to be going outside your place because if you are, go for the P7. If not, go for the HD600 and an amp.

EDIT: I forgot to say that the HD600 is an open headphone, meaning you have a larger soundstage but you can hear what's happening outside and people around you can hear your music. The P7 is a closed back headphone so you'll get a smaller soundstage but have minimal (depends how loud/quiet your music is ;) ) sound leakage to the outside.

Ok both sound undesirable now. What do you recommend as a professional headphone for about $400 USD or under?

Do you want open or closed headphones?

Are you going to be wearing it in public?

What sound signature are you looking for?

By professional do you mean studio use? If so, maybe something by Shure? I hear the Shure 1540 is a great headphone (you can get it used on Amazon for $400). I kinda want to try one myself. And then there's the Fostex TH600 at a higher price. If you want to spend a lot less, there's Shure 440 with 840 pads as well.

"True potential"

Just no.

P7's sound plenty good, and the 600 don't necessarily need an amp.

There's a lot of different professional uses for headphones, but please tell me you weren't using a Bose for that same purpose...

I remember 1540 being too flat for me. Then again, my preferred FR is always curved. It's certainly a step up from 440 though, almost in all aspect, except the price :)

For curved FR, their DJ series was good, the SRH750DJ.

i've been taking a liking to flat responses lately. It was a very different experiance from the V3s by Mayflower I used to have.

Yea, strange, they do look identical. Dunno, maybe the little high spikes of the 750DJ, or the isolation or something. Coz I remember thinking 1540 wasn't my type, but the 750DJ was categorized 'the type to remember from Shure'

Forgot to add, aesthetically, I like the 1540 better, with the carbon fiber decal on the cup and metal hinges. The 750DJ got good design, but still feel plasticky.

1. Prefer closed if possible

2. No

3. I don't know what that means?

sound signature would be bassy, warm (mid-bass slight boost) balanced / flat, or bright (less bass and more highs / treble)

I gave you an offer for them... lol. I don't have enough money to get them without trading my TH600s.

To my surprise, the TH600 has very little isolation which is why I want to change headphones :(
