DDoS attack against against Swedens largest ISP

Bingbear

Last night a DDoS attack against Swedens largest ISP led to major disruptions in the connection.

The attack caused traffic to be down for aprox. 45min in large parts of the country.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article19999354.ab (article in swedish, google translate could do a decent job with translations)

The Swedish board of telecommunications,  Authority of Civil Defence as well as the Swedish Armed forces have been notified and are
working on the case. A short statement was given by the board of telecommunications, but the Armed forces declined to give a comment.

Update: I seems that Telias DNS server is now completely down. Changing to Googles DNS works just fine.

Update2: "What we are sure of is that it is not a attack aimed at Telia as we originally thought. But the attack is aimed at a game server or a gaming site. Why they are sending this traffic on to us, I have no answers to."- Telias pressperson

Update3: Lizard Squad has now claimed resposibility for the attack.

Knocked out Swedish Internet: "The disturbance was an attack"

Telia confirms - the network was knocked out by a cyber attack

A comprehensive cyber attack knocked out large parts of the Internet traffic in Sweden last night.
- I can confirm that the disturbance was due to a denial of service attack, says Hans G. Larsson, Communications Manager at Telia.
The attack was directed against Telia, Sweden's largest ISP, and meant major disruptions on the network including the Stockholm and on Gotland.
- It was a so called DDoS attack, which simply means that someone overloaded our servers with a lot of calls in order to disturb them, but it's virtually impossible to tell from where the attack came, says Hans G. Larsson.
This kind of attacks have become more common in recent years and has previously directed against everything from defense and government agencies and large banks.
was down for 45 minutes
The attack yesterday meant that traffic was down from ten o'clock at night and 45 minutes ahead.
The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, is the regulatory authority for electronic communications.
- We have not yet received any report from the operator about what has happened but we are still on and look at what has happened and how extensive the disturbance was, says Peder Crist Vallarta in the department of network security.
Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB, says it has no knowledge of the incident.
The defense would not comment on the attack.

Roughly translated

I think my bank goes through telia because their site was completely down for a long while yesterday

Isn't it cute when gov't try and take down the internet, only to get covered in a shitstorm from the back-lash?

Yeah I understand that TPB broke laws, but the Problem ist that the goverment always tells everyone about Child Porn, but the real reason for the Raid was the financial stuff.

Actually they host no files, no more laws being broken than gun sellers that might overlook a few permits for example.
