Oh ya, I agree. It appears Ubisoft games are pretty shit on PC and optimized poorly. I just thought I would share that article, but yes I'm not surprised to hear that dual 980s still have issues lmao. Far Cry 4 plays terribly for me on my GTX970. I'm building my new rig now (specs in sig) I'm hoping my update will improve my gaming but Ubisoft games might be doomed to always be shit until they optimize better.

I'd stay away from Ubisoft games for the time being, It'll just make you feel bad because it makes you think your pc is trash lmao

Yeah, luckily I got Far Cry 4 free with my GPU so I'm not crying about wasted money lol. Hopefully it's optimized better soon.

60 fps any day over 30.

Graphics and frame rate were never really a problem for my computer, only my shitty laptop.  So I would say that those need to be balanced.

Voted

Votes paint a pretty easy picture.

60fps, less fidelity preferred

IMO - Keep in mind, Texture quality @ Ultra vs Low has little effect on that performance, meaning the game will still look great regardless of slightly less fidelity

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

There is a lot of misunderstanding in framerate.

a lot of people think 50 FPS is like 83% of the smoothness of 60, when in fact its a mix 30 and 60 frames so its a stuttery mess

because of my pre built and minecraft past, i can play games at 15 FPS. no joke, my old system, a amd e 450 apu could run minecraft with optifine on lowest settings at 15 FPS.  so i'll take the 30 FPS and stunning graphics.

Ugh, I remember being able to get like 20-30fps on the Intel HD2000 IGP in my old i7-2600 in Vanilla Beta 1.7.3 using the stock launcher exe without Optifine or special launcher like Magic Launcher, then the Beta 1.8 update rolled around and I was lucky to get 2fps with max fog and minimum rendering distance (going up to maybe 5-10 if I grabbed Optifine and Magic Launcher), even with as much RAM dedicated to the IGP as my mobo would allow... Had to move on up to a Radeon HD6850 since the only semi-decent dedicated GPU in the house at that point was an ASUS 9400GT with 1GB GDDR2 (maybe GDDR3, need to grab the card and check). >.>

Since then, I've sworn to never accept anything below 90fps when it come to Minecraft, even when I've got it modded to hell and back.

I can live without stunning graphics as long as the game is compelling and plays smoothly. But that kinda depends on the developer as well. From triple A companies I expect both since they have the manpower and budget. Plus, they are charging me full price, so no excuses.

I had the same thing, I used to play on my old craptop at maximum 10fps. I hated it, but every day I tried harder to improve my fps. Then I raged and gave up. Then I went back to minesweeper

LOL who chose 30fps?

An enraged console peasant who is frustrated that they cannot even achieve 60fps if they wanted too. Poor them.

Reading through, It seems like people would want 30fps and nice visuals for SINGLEPLAYER, and 60fps with ok visuals for MULTIPLAYER, to get the competitive edge of course. I agree with the multiplayer one, as I do the same to get a competitive edge over others on CS:GO. More FPS = Profit.

To be honest, I'm usually happy with my settings as long as I get at least 45+ FPS with NO stuttering. If it has stuttering at all I go 'office space' on it.

Yep. A lot of people don't get that. E.g. Crysis 3 when maxed out gives low framerates But it still feels smooth because there is no microstutter. Which makes it a Good gaming experience. Obviously something has been done right in the rendering process. Many games are like that thankfully. But then You also get stuff like watchdogs where framerates Sometimes look Ok on paper But the actual gameplay experience is bad due to microstutter.

It really depends on the game. But I would say that 60fps always comes first for me unless there's a really good reason for dropping below that. For me, the smoothness of a game is much more noticeable than going from medium to high in a game.

I pretty much run everything at 60fps 1440p Ultra

If I cannot get Ultra I turn down settings until I can get 60fps, but if I have to turn the graphics down TOO low I will settle for 30fps

It's because casual users are more easily impressed by how good something looks visually than the framerate which is why companies (particularly big ones) will focus on that. For people that actually give a shit about the gaming experience - obviously we'd take the 60fps.
