There is not z79. There is a z97 though

4TB of "stuff" is mad! anyways, don't use barracudas. I know the price is appealing but they tend to get noisy. I recommend a 3TB WD RED instead

I just need mass storage but in a budget so no ssd

 

not overclocking, some rendering, in the us

budget $1200

 

A budget like that should easily fit an SSD. I wouldn't build a computer without one. They're not that expensive, and honestly, a computer without one feels like complete ass.

If you're not overclocking you can use a Xeon. No point in going with a K series processor. You can also step down to an H97 motherboard.
