Does FX-6300 Bottleneck the GTX970

My question is simple, will a highly overclocked FX-6300 bottleneck the GTX970?

Yes, but not by much. Maybe about 20% when compared to something like an i7.

Will any budget oriented CPU not bottleneck a GTX 970?

Yes.

Save up more and get an i5 4690 or 4690K to go with the 970.

In Finland the 4690k is almost 2,5 times more expencive than the 6300. Thats a bummer.

It depends on the game, When the GPU is bottlenecked you have the capability of pushing more AA and textures, It is worse when the CPU is bottlenecked.

My Gaming PC

|| CPU: Intel i5 4690@4.3Ghz || GPU: Dual ASUS gtx 1080 Strix. || RAM: 16gb (4x4gb) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600Mhz. || Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait edition. || OS: Win10 Pro

The 8350/8320 is dirt cheap atm. Pick it up if you can.

8350 is no faster in a gaming scenario than a 6300 really, at the same clock.

And yes; it will bottleneck.

I would normally link you to a video from Austin Evans where he uses an Athlon X4 with a 780, however I am at school so I cannot access youtube.

The 6300 will not bottleneck the 970. In some CPU bound games you'll notice some lower frames (think: mmos, minecraft, et al), but thats about it.

I used this exact processor alongside a 780 for a LAN box for a while. 4-10 fps lower than my I7. Not a large bottleneck at all, considering that you can always just sell your 6300 and pick up an 8320 or 8350 and keep your motherboard.

pls stop recommending K i5s, its not worth for budget builds. i5 4460 (160€), h81m mobo (60€)

Thats why I suggested the i5 4690 in there too.

So a GTX 970 paired with the 4460 is going to max out or almost max out all games at 1080p?

Yes. Of course not games like AC unity, but pretty much every single game that is worth playing.

Well, to be fair games like Arma are "worth playing" even with their terrible optimization.

I do agree with Unity though. 0/10 would buy again.

Yes. This is a far better combo than getting any FX cpu.

cheap is not a good word to use for AMD CPUs

you need at least a decent 970 chipset based mobo like the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P

this motherboard is a very good one at a very good deal ATM if you are in the US and also the i5-4590 is only 5$ more and come with a 300mhz faster boost clock so i'd go with that instead:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($189.98 @ SuperBiiz)

Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($67.98 @ Newegg)

Total: $257.96

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Otherwise if you're not a us resident i would say pick the cheapest H97 motherboard available to you and the i5-4460 unless the i5-4590 is within 10 to 15$ of the 4460...

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 2 VR

as i stated ATM in the us the core i5-4460 is 184$ and the i5-4590 is 189$ making the 4590 a better choice.
