GTX 770 SLI or GTX 970?

Npc_Hydra3
Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

Okay I'm beginning to see that I need a little more power, I have a 770 already, so my question is should I SLI the 770 or just get a 970? Keep in mind I have an H87-D3H board so I would need a new motherboard to support SLI. It comes up to be about $110 for the mobo and about 250$ for another 770. So $360 for SLI or $360 for a 970? Keep in mind that if I go with the 970 I would like to SLI it at some point as well. Which one would be the better choice to go with?

770 SLI if at 1080p

970 if at 1440p or higher

since you have a 770 i would say get another, tho only if you are able to wait for new games because many dont come with SLI support until weeks after release

Sounds like either way, you'll end up upgrading your motherboard... you'll have to reinstall windows if you do though.

In games that are SLI optimized the 770's would outperform a single 970. I'd say get a cheap MSI Z87 PC MATE and another GTX 770.

Derp that mobo doesnt support sli either nvm :/

Does it support crossfire?

Could always sell the 770, get 2 280x's - that'd save on the motherboard cost, give you more VRAM.

I hate selling items online its just a hassle, but thanks for the option. oh and yes it does support crossfire. I think I'm just going to buy another motherboard and 770 for now. I don't plan on upgrading to a monitor higher than 1080p right now so the 770's should do fine.

Hmm, that's fair enough, but I'd still recommend the 970. 2GB of Vram is the bare minimum you need now and in a year it's just not going to do I reckon. I use a 970 and it's great, really don't need more power at 1080p which the 770 would provide, but the RAM probably does help.

Alternatively, wait and see what AMD come up with in the next few months, could always grab a 390 or whatever it's called if priced competitively.
