Well that's a shame. Changing default search engine isn't that big of a deal but it's still sad to see them go with an inferior product.

Hopefully they will be able to rely less on search engine money now that they got sponsored speed dial boxes.

Remember when Google was more open and collaborative with its creations? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Ever heard of "Embrace, extend and extinguish"? Microsoft loved that strategy and it seems like Google has used (or are interested in using) in quite a few places recently.

It's very sad to see.

I haven't left firefox before and I don't have any plans to leave firefox anytime in the future, until there is something that makes my experience on FF horrible.

However, for mobile browser is another story. I tried FF mobile and it kept on crashing, with chrome a little but then it kept on giving me a white screen everytime I switched tabs. So I got for Opera browser which was fine, didn't crash at all until recently when a good amount of time it would not load a web page and would give me the cat error message.

If google is doing this to try and crush Mozilla (which is a non profit), that is just sad and kind of evil on Googles part

Chrome has YouTube in Glorious 60FPS and also, if Firefox is making a "Google style" deal of any kind with Yahoo then I will have to end my Firefox usage. Fuck Yahoo.

Did you even read the post by Goodbytes? It says that the default search engine will be changed to Yahoo but you can still change it back to Google if you prefer that (also, even if that isn't specified, I would think that current users won't have their current search engines changed. I have duckduckgo as default and why would Mozilla change that just to have me change it again?)

I really have a hard time believing that you would run your browser in default settings and if you do, then maybe it's time for a change and start making "personal" modifications to stuff like your search engine? ;)

Just because a shitty company like Yahoo has become default, doesn't mean the end of the world (except less funding for Mozilla, but that doesn't really affect you). It literately takes less than two seconds to change the default browser in Firefox. In other words, no reason to leave Firefox (except for the 60fps on Youtube, but I'm sure that will be fixed soon for Firefox too, also that isn't what you said was the reason to why you were going to leave, you just wanted to leave cause Yahoo...). Sooo you just seem to have stuff to whine about, not really any good reasons...

Firefox masterrace!

Google Chrome has always been trusty, speedy, and seems compatible with most sites/systems and whatever else that needs a well oiled browser.

Just a wild guess:

Some parasites entered Firefox at the time of the odd and weird CEO switch to the homophobic guy, then back to some other dude or chick

Since then they've been working to destroy it from the inside.

I'm pretty sure this has more to do with Google than Firefox. No one really knew why Google gave its biggest competitor in the browser market so much money, Google finally said let's not do that anymore.

This doesn't make it impossible to use Google search in Firefox, this just means Mozilla won't be making it the default search engine.

The questions isn't 'Can you live with Chrome's issues?' it's 'Should you live with them?'

I know i can still use it but its better to just type in html bar and get results from google than go on google site and search there.

Main thing i hate about google is memory usage but its same with firefox (which i was using for years).

The other is flashplayer issues in chrome like autoplaying videos on facebook.

I remember flashplayer crashing on firefox very often, less frequently on chrome.

For stuff i cant do in chrome (wont load one website, if i fix it it happens again after a while anyway) i use firefox.

And there isnt a browser that would work perfectly and fit my requirements at the same time. Not in this day and age when we hardly get 100% working software without bugs...

Well if Yahoo is paying to support FireFox, then I'll be happy to migrate and give yahoo a serious go.

Videos auto-playing on Facebook is not a chrome or flash issue. It's a setting on Facebook. You can enable or disable auto-play as you desire.

Not like changing the searchengine is a big deal however. Firefox won't die as long as they have their fanbase. Been ok with both browsers, chrome and firefox even though chrome is faster.

So its not implemented yet. FF36 Nightly. Still uses google http://i.imgur.com/e46GIvW.png

I really want to switch back to Firefox but it feels strange. Why did I let Evil tempt me? Anyway, Mozilla is unfortunately doomed to maybe 20% marketshare.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'd just like to BUMP this, to verify something:

The new update, WILL IN FACT CHANGE YOUR DEFAULT SEARCH ENGINE WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION, even if you are upgrading. I literally just had it happen to me.

Seriously Mozilla? That's a really underhanded move. Many users may not even notice the change at first, until they realize their searches aren't from the right place.

This is fucking annoying. Oh man, this brings me so close to switching back to Chrome. The main reason I even use Firefox is the handy "Restore Previous Session" and "Recently Closed Tabs" features. If Chrome or IE11 had those features, I would abandon Firefox.

Meh easy to switch. Also, you know what... Yahoo search is not half bad. I have been giving it a chance since the announcement, and it does a fairly good job. At leats for current search.
