HD558 are probably the best performance for the least price. They don't have a mic though. You will have to use mod mic or a desk mic.

Unless you want to pay through the roof, I'd go with a good pair of headphones and mod mic.

I agree with @smjpl.

My personal recommendation:

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro with a modmic or desk/stand mic.

DT770 are another fine choice in headphones. By going this route, you are buying audio products from companies who have been building audio products for a long time. I don't recommend buy a headset from somebody who bought in headphones, put a crappy mic on and plastered the word gaming everywhere. There are very good gaming headsets as well but these are generally a a bit higher price and not quite as good for music (not bad by any means but more tailored for games).

Panasonic HTF600 with Neewer Mic = less than $40 (apparently there is a huge price spike on Amazon for these so get elsewhere).

should i buy astro a40 ?

if not any suggestions

Please do not buy astro a40's. That's one of my biggest regret purchases ever.

The Sennheiser HD5x8 series is really good for gaming and music as well. But I really prefer the sound of open headphones, so take your own preference into consideration.

Sennhieser has some pretty nice headphones I have heard. I have used the PC360s in the past but never owned them so I can't recall too much. I'm currently using my Astro A40s that I use on my Xbox One. I was also looking to purchase a high grade PC gaming headset too.

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

From what I've heard on a lot of mic tests for the mod mic, there is a very apparent hiss, which is really annoying to be on the receiving end of.

I use the Kingston HyperX Cloud headset and its great!

I bought one.  It feels amazing to use.

Unfortunately it's not that great being on the receiving end of that headset.  I had my sister chat with me using it to evaluate it and I was really put off.  Mic volume is pretty low unless you want to turn on the awfulness that is mic boost.  Sometimes the audio that the Cloud user hears will bleed into the mic.  Hearing the Cloud user's breathing is also quite annoying.  I'm probably going to return it soon.
