I've never Overclocked a graphics card before and don't want to damage anything or void any warranties. I have a 970 Strix, and it sticks at 60C while playing Borderlands 2 or heavily modded Skyrim (both games max settings at 1080p) I wanted to now if there is any room for overclocking at all, and if overclocking would void my warranty. Has anyone overclocked the 970 Strix yet? What were the performance gains?

Okay guys thanks for all the answers. I did read a guide about Overclocking that told me to slowly bump up the ram first while running Unigine, and stop when I see artefacts, and do the same for the GPU. Is that a good method? The guide I read was this one: http://www.pcgamer.com/how-to-overclock-your-graphics-card/

Yes you can, no warranties will be voided, lots of people have, performance gains vary by card.

This ^

Plus with the Strix it should be incredibly easy - you can just use Asus's GPU Tweak utility :)

Although of course if you've never done this before be very careful and preferably watch a few youtube tutorials first :)

What 970 do you have? My G1 Gaming only goes to 1500Mhz without adding power. That's sad sad.png

I have the Strix. Its stock clocks are 1114 base, 1250 boost and i added +200 and that's it, so 1450 MHz. I think the power delivery bottlenecks it. Kinda sad, that's true.

who cares...

The strix card has 5+1 power delivery vs the stock 4+1. Definitely limited in the power delivery aspect of things.

When i monitor stuff in GPU-Z it tells me that it's constantly at it's max TDP (100%). Asus won't allow you to increase the voltage either. or at least not significantly, so what you see is what you get.

Custom bios would probably help a bit there.

Oh, so I'm not so screwed :D Look for custom BIOS (overvolting) just be careful, the Asus 970 isn't allowed to draw a lot of power. I think that I'll leave my 970 at 1500Mhz, I don't want to overvolt a brand new GPU.

^this. Also why do i allways have to void the warranty with a custom BIOS allthough i bought a performance product already? Asus, wake up! :D

Googled it, nope, no dual BIOS. The G1 doesn't look so bad after all...

Damn, it seems that you will have to stick with the stock BIOS if you don't want to take too much risk. I got the G1 because it was the cheapest 970 in my country. I was thinking on the strix but it was $20 more expensive, I don't know why,

I really liked that somebody streched out and made a cooler that's silence optimized. The 0dB feature is just marketing BS but at least someone did something in that direction. :D
