Counter Strike for the win. Me and a load of my mates that I used to go to Uni with had a big meetup and we played cs and I ran it on my server and 22 of us played using my 24 port switch. :) TP Link SG2424 by the way recommend it to anyone.

Nice! But not many people are into RTS games. If they are, they should also check out Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade, and Rome: Total War.

 

Oh, and Supreme Commander is ok.

 

Great TURN based strategy games:

 

-Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (Best TBS game ever!)

-Civilization III

-Civilization V

Team Fortress 2 is a good one, but relatively hard to jump into if nobody in the LAN has experience with it.

This!!! This is the best thing someone mentioned.

Also, buy a NGC/N64/Wii (but buy gamecube controllers for that damn thing) and play some Super Smash Brothers! If you're up to it some Mario Party/Kart (double dash!) also rocks. But no motion stuff! Stick to the older Mario Parties.

Depending on your age add some nice soda or beer and just play fun games imo. (no intention to promote underage drinking!)

 

Remember, a LAN-party doesn't have to be about serious gaming. Just have fun with some minigames, you can always play BF3 online with skype.

 

Also, if some of you like Zelda/RPGs 2 more games to consider: Zelda 4 Swords Adventures (either 1TV+1NGC+4GBAs or 5TVs+5NGCs+some strange cables) and games from the Tales of XXX series. (my favorite for NGC: Tales of Symphonia - the one for wii sucks)

sins of solar empire rebellion is an okay game to play with friends.

GTA IV and Minecraft and CS GO :)  JC2 MP is in development and it is a pretty fun game if you create a LAN party out of it :) You should check out freddiew's LAN party videos to get a sense of how their games in LAN are.
