Best PC gaming controller currently?

I know there have been threads like this before, but there may have been compatibility improvements etc.

Which controller is LTT's top pick as of Q4 2014?

I am looking for something to play games designed for a controller like GTA V and Dolphin Emulator games. so don't say "mouse and keyboard"

Im currently looking at the Dualshock 4 or Razer Sabertooth, although Ive had issues with Razer's build quality in the past.

I already have a Wii U pro controller and adapter, but the digital triggers are bad for games involving driving.

well the 360 controller is cheap is great imo but there is a down side to it for like side scrollers and stuff because of that stupid d pad they gave it so the xbox one controller fixes that but is more expensive has way better build quality but has a stupid micro usb which broke for me within a couple weeks of using it lol so i say sabertooth while i dont know the quality it does look like its better than the 360 while keeping basically the same layout.

360/XB1 since that's the bog standard layout for games supporting controllers.

If you're going to use emulators for like sidescrollers, do what I did and also have a USB SNES controller. I use that for side scrollers and my 360 controllers for racing titles and beat 'em ups.

I rock a mayflower adapter and a Gamecube controller. Best, thing, ever. No input delay when playing Smash: Project M. I also play darksouls with it!

The PS4 controller is pretty great, I love that thing so much. Can be used via bluetooth or wired, works flawlessly with any modern game with DS4 tool and it even has better compatibility for older games than the Xbox controllers (shoulder buttons registering as actual keys, not just an analog input, etc.) The touchpad is also surprisingly handy in some situations.

I use a wireless Xbox 360 Controller(that I already owned), plus a Wireless Receiver. Optional: Rechargable Xbox 360 Battery Pack

I love this setup, and play lots of games this way.  You can also do it with a PS3 Controller if you own one.

There are also direct plug in USB Xbox360 Controllers

Xbox 360 controller is my fave at the moment. Other than for FPS, I rarely use mouse and keyboard for gaming these days.

I just used my Dualshock 3s I already had from my Playstation 3, alongside some really freakin' good drivers I can't remember the name of (Props to the team that did it anyway). It supports native bluetooth pairing now and emulates as a 360 controller for the compatibility

Controllers is one of those however where it is preference. I wouldn't say there is a "best" per se. Maybe try a few out?

Like choosing a mechanical keyboard, it's predominantly a personal preference thing.

I do have the Logitech F710 which is based on an Xbox button layout with a PS3 feel to it. It's very comfortable on my side and works great.

That's my opinion though. The 'best' controller is a very subjective matter.

I bought a used dualshock 4 at gamestop. I'll probably stick with it for now.
