Is it okay for a computer to be hooked to a power strip or is it better to have the plug straight to the wall

its better plugged into the wall but if you have a good quality strip your fine either way

Get a good quality surge protector. Don't get some cheapo $5 strip from WalMart...

I have my PC and monitor plugged into a surge-protected power strip, it's actually better that way because it decreases the chance that I will lose $1200 worth of hardware.

like other if the stripe is shit or if you aren't plugin 5 high end machines on it, those thing have a limit, also a UPS is worth the cost IMO, saved my bacon a few times already a cheaper option is a power regulator that cleans the power from the outlet

You should invest in a high quality power supply that has surge protection instead of relying on a $20 power bar.

No, like a proper PSU that has surge protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, undercurrent protection, undervoltage protection, short circuit protection, thermal protection, etc...

 

That's why I spent $300 on my PSU.

My motherboard has anti surge protection, and I turn off the PSU at night.

 

So the storms at night arent a fear of mine.

Get one with surge protection and insurance if possible, remember to register it!

I use a Masterplug SRG42, It has 3 years insurance so I've set a reminder on my calendar to get another a couple weeks before it runs out.

A decent PSU also helps.

Even with a good quality PSU; there is still a possibility that lightning could take out your computer. I would recommend a good UPS with surge protection built in. I would never recommend plugging directly into the wall.

oh :< i have a cheapo power strip cause i need to connect stuff like printer scanners my PC and Monitor in too, and the plugs in my room are a little spread out.

 

My PSU is pretty fineo and that and i think i should invest in a good strip then anyhow~.

 

reccomendations?, nothin that'll kill me cause with stuff i got coming up i really cant afford anything super expensive.
