Been playing piano for about a year and a half

I have been playing guitar for three years. I'm very much into progressive metal but also play metalcore/groove metal etc. I love 7-string/8-string guitars but don't have one yet. The time will come when I'll be able to play Animals as Leaders the way it's meant to be played.

I just wanted to ask you this. How low is too low for you? In terms om downtuning? What is your favorite tuning?

I personally think that downtuning an octave down ( E A D G C F A D, or E B E A D G B E) is in most cases as low as I would go. Though 9 string tunings an create a cool percussive sound that could be used in some songs.

I used to play in E standard for the longest of time, but now I'm playing in D standard. I haven't gone too low because I have 6 strings (10-46 gauge), so they'd become a floppy mess if tuned too low.

Yeah D standard is cool, I often use Drop C as well. I use gauge 11-49 I think

My other guitar I have a D bass string and then the rest... so D bass string, then regular E string, A string... I use it for 7 string stuff

8-string guitars are nothing compared to JPJ's 10 string bass :P. http://www.godlyke.com/img_catalog/ProdGodlykeBassDsx10f.gif

Play bass and drums, would also like an obscure amount of strings. Would love a 6 string.

The D string is a bass string? Damn...so do you have to buy that string separate?
