2x GTX 970 or 1x GTX 980?

CaptnDisco

Hi! I was just wondering if I should buy two GTX 970 cards, or one GTX 980. What would give me the best prefomance?

At least where I live, the price will be the same.

i wonder why people don't think much when asking themselves these questions.

a 970 is around 90% of a 980 (performance wise)

now double that you have 180%. Through SLI you will lose like 10% and you end up with 170% of a 980.

1 gtx 980 i had  sli before  2 gtx  480's and later a 590 but  had a lot of issues  with games that most of the games dont even support sli when they come out

now i have a single gtx 780 and with most games i have smoother gameplay  and more stable fps then with sli

just go with 1 bad ass single card and oc the hell out of it ;)

It's the same price as 2 970s... it doesn't make any sense.

If the OP is new to DIY PC, then it's definitely intimidating.

I'm pretty sure it's just general knowledge.

Would you rather buy one big apple or two slightly smaller apples for the same price?

yes it does with game support 1 single card does a better job then SLI them or crossfire

i had alot of issues with sli  back in the 480 days  2 gtx 480's gave me more fps drops and lag then one  even my 590 later did it not so well  vs a 580

1 beast card is in most way the most stable  option  becouse it always works

Not exactly the greatest analogy...

If it were common knowledge then the question would be a rarity, but it's not.

Most games that need so much power support sli. And tell me, since when is it worth to loose 70% of the performance in most games for the sake of one or two other games, at the same price? I'd agree with you if the 980 was 50$ more, but it's twice the price. So no, a 980 doesn't make any sense right now.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
