PC Problems you live with

Guest

Everytime I turn on my PC and adjust the volume on my CM Devastator Keyboard, it always maxed out or minimize the volume (whichever I pressed first). I have to unplug/replug the usb of the keyboard for it to work properly.

My 4770K can only reach 4.3Ghz and temperature is rockin sky high when stress testing. It just happens with stress testing but everything is fine with normal operation and gaming so I can live with that.

My external 2.5" SATA to USB 3.0 enclosure fails when I plug it in a USB 3.0 port, I need to use it in 2.0 ports if I want to work with it.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

The fan in my PSU tends to wobble at low RPMs(I could RMA it, but the down time is going to suck), my back-lit keyboard's lighting defaults to max every time I restart/shutdown the computer, and I assume you all know about the issues with the latest Catalyst drivers? Gotta love when it freezes, bluescreens, and restarts, but leaves the same frozen desktop displayed over it all. The only reason I know it restarts and functions properly despite the frozen screen is because my keyboard goes back to full bright and blinds the whole neighborhood.

-My HDD sounds like the monster from 'The Grudge' , slowly dying.

-My GTX 460 has been reflowed, so now I am living with the fear that it can die any moment and I can't use it at full potential without shortening its life, so playing less demanding games.

-The second DVI slot from my GPU never worked.

-Sometimes my cpu fan forgets to spin when I start my computer, I need to touch it with a something so it wakes up before my cpu goes at 100 degrees. (its been like this ever since I bought it, but the older the pc got, the less it did it, now its extremely rare)

-When computer goes in stand by, it doesen't come back no matter how much I move mouse or click, it needs a reset (altho this didn't happen lately anymore,I fixed it somehow)

My GPU.. Also my case and power supply. Hopefully that stuff (except the GPU. :/) will be replaced soon, and by soon, I mean Christmas. Problem is, I'd go out and buy a 1440p monitor if my GPU had the power. :(

I don't want to deal with this one but I do, because I can't figure it out.

Occasionally, my keyboard sends extremely rapid enter key triggers to the PC, so essentially involuntary rapid-fire hacks on the enter key, and this only happens directly after I log in.

I have to unplug the keyboard and plug it back in to fix it.

Skype never auto sets my status to away... more annoying than you think

Been hearing random bits of an unknown audio clip randomly like when you quickly unpause and pause something, annoys the shit out of me and scares the shit out of me once heard a screaming sound...

Chrome uses 3 gigs of ram if I don't clear Cache, History and Cookies regularly

I can't connect to my HP DL360 G5 from the Remote Web Access page in Chrome randomly, but of course it works fine in Firefox

HP iLO2 (Integrated Lights Out, server function) won't work prperly in Chrome, but you know it works PERFECTLY in Internet Explorer...

I have a very old macbook pro (2008 unibody) that I still use as my bedside computer - there is a strange following of other users such as myself where (only recently for me - maybe the yosemite upgrade - or something with my ssd) the laptop will randomly go to sleep while I'm using it. Like - moving the cursor - so I have to click on the touchpad and it wakes back up. Only minor - but annoying mostly because I have no idea what causes this.

Are you on windows? If so try running system file checker and looking through your windows-system error logs for power-troubleshooter. oh and disable allow hybrid sleep in power plans and if you can/want to - update your bios. I had the same issue when I first installed windows 8, and these are only half the solutions I can remember that I found on microsofts support site, I didn't do them one by one and wait for something to happen or not (to find out what it actually was) - I just did it all and it seems to have fixed the issue. It still happens - but only once in a blue moon.

When the MagicJack is plugged in, Skype wants to use the telephone as the headset and there doesn't seem to be a way to configure it to use the real headset instead.

This. (Task bar issues)

-snip-

Asked for ideas on it a while back but nothing suggested sorted it, still open to ideas though.

What have you tried to try and fix it?

Have you tried the following;

- Hide the task bar and see if it still causes the flickering when it shows up?

- Did you put the Scaling in AMD catalyst software to 0%? (AMD Catalyst Control Center > My digital flat-panel > scaling options (digital flat-panel) > 0%)

- Could be a refresh rate issue, try putting it to 59hz and then back to 60hz?

A quick google search gave me this solution: "Now i have constantly scaling value at 8% and my pc monitor taskbar isn't anymore flashing. The only thing i did do was from AMD Catalyst Control Center > Desktop management > Desktop properties > refresh rate i changed 60Hz to 59Hz clicked apply and pc changed back to 60Hz but after i did do that the taskbar stopped flashing. So i quess that there is some sync problem which seem to be repaired with this."

Try the above before doing anything below.

_______________________________

- Reinstall the graphic drivers by first running this : http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html and then the latest, non-beta drivers for your graphic card?

- A different monitor/TV to see if it wasn't the cause of the flickering?

- A different DP/HDMI/DVI cable? (please don't tell me you are using VGA...)

- Does the flickering only happens on the taskbar or if you have something in fullscreen, like a movie/game is it flickering too?

- If all else fails, format and reinstall windows?

There's a lot of solutions for this. Can be from the above, to interferences caused by certain devices, like capture cards, bad cabling, etc... The likely solution is Scaling / refresh rate though, try the scaling first see if it works or not.

Cheers for the response!

The flickering dissapears 99% of the time when gaming or in any other program that requires 100% screen estate, however it does remain if expanding videos on the internet to full screen.

The scaling change sometimes fixes it but it's a pesky bugger that keeps coming back, I've also tried changing the refresh rate but that again is only ever a temporary solution and the the hiding of the the task bar doesn't do anything.

I've also tried a few other things in the past.

changing task bar location

Swapping my main GPU with the secondary (CF)

changing main and secondary desktops.

changing mini-display ports / cable / interface technique.

I believe I re-installed my driers a small while back, but I will give that ago again later tonight when I have the time, ill update then as to if it works and to be honest with the re-install of the OS, I have so much installed I would rather put up with it then a new install of windows ha.

Well my desktop is kool for now but my "new" used laptop needs a SSD. It has a 265X inside it and it boots slow as hell. My desktop SSD's spoiled me...
