I was going to purchase extra samsung SSDs with my dad, but my dad said to pick out the PRO versions over the EVO versions.

both of them are 840s the only diffrence is the name EVO/PRO, can explain the diffrence? my dad says don't get the EVO ones

Pro is more reliable and slightly faster

The EVO's are still good though

Well the performance of the PRO doesn't tank over time.

There probably are some other differences. Maybe the nand used.

The EVO firmware problem is being adressed in a patch, not really a reason not to get one.

Pro is faster and more reliable, hence the higher price. Not really worth it over the EVO tbh, because they'll both last longer then you need them to and both are so fast you won't really notice a difference between the two on a day to day basis.

I wouldn't get either though. Intel SSDs ftw, even the 520s are great

At the moment, the EVO has a firmware bug that degrades performance over time, but Samsung has publicly acknowledged the bug and has announced that they have a fix on the way..

Other than that, the PRO is a slightly faster and higher grade drive, but it also comes with a higher price. If your dad wants you to get the PRO, I would get the PRO.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Under heavy work loads, the PRO is almost twice as fast as the EVO.

Day to day use, with light work loads, the difference isn't that great.
