Don't press "reset all settings" in iOS 8 - It deletes all iCloud drive documents

LAwLz

resetallsettings.jpg

According to multiple posts on the MacRumors forum, pressing "Reset All Settings" in iOS 8 will also (permanently) erase all your documents saved in your iCloud drive.

I couldn't find out exactly what data is being deleted, but it seems like anything related to iWorks will disappear. I am not sure if things like photos or other data saved on iCloud gets erased too.

Some users have been able to recover their lost files using Time Machine on OS X. Others have not been so lucky.

Things aren't going that well for Apple lately.

you would think not deleting data would be a priority and central concern to designing this feature, especially since they explicitly mention what happens won't happen.

you would think not deleting data would be a priority and central concern to designing this feature, especially since they explicitly mention what happens won't happen.

Maybe they should just remove that sentence and hype it as "we have improved reset all settings! Quickly remove all your nudes on your phone and in the could with one simple click!".

Because you know, it's a feature and not a bug.

<this_yeah_that.jpg

I know I know... They are the first to report on it though, since it comes from their forums.

It's strange to me that Apple would have a problem as fundamental as this.  It used to be much more rare that they would have such a severe bug.

The plus side of all of this is that the patch should be fairly easy to code, validate, and push out to users.

Is this in iCloud, or iCloud Drive?

The former seems stable. The Latter is barely rolled out.

All a crap shoot, I don't like cloud storage anyways.

I didn't know they were two difference services. I have edited the title to be more clear. This deletes things in iCloud drive. Not sure if iCloud is affected. The complains over at MacRumors mentions iCloud a lot and not so much iCloud Drive. Not sure if people are using them as synonyms or if it really affects both things.

I mess them up to every now and then, it's just laziness on my part though.

Bloody hell! What are they playing at? Seems iOS 8 is a mess that needs to be put down already!

8.1 has already been seeded to developers. They're really rushing out updates for iOS 8, and they're not doing any decent quality control at all.

I'm glad OS X10.10 is actually just getting decent attention and not suffering like this.

This is the reason why I don't like synchronization aspect of cloud storage. I never know if deleting a file on my device will also delete it from the cloud or not.

I had this problem with Firefox sync. I backed up all my bookmarks and etc. From my main PC to Firefox Sync and tried to transfer all that info to a second PC. And you know what it did? Instead of transferring my 500 bookmarks to the second PC it deleted all of them and replaced them with 6 bookmarks from the second PC. All because it tries to do everything automatically.

What is going on with Apple's iOS division? It seems to me that they're making mistakes left and right recently (thanks to all the attention put on them)...

Yea, it's two things right now. When OSX Yosemite releases, iCloud Drive will be fully released.

Right now my iCloud gives me the option to switch over to the Drive beta, but it would delete all my local photos and what not, so I've held off.

Truth be told I didn't even know it was a new thing till I looked at the options.

as a person who hates could based storage with a passion, i don't care that much.

but wow, i remember with my ipod touch 4th i never had found a glitch that wasn't related to jailbreaking/tweaking the thing.
