hmm... that might work. do you think one can of plasti-dip will be enough to do the whole case?

i will try calling Azza tomorrow(only open 9-5).

If you're smart about it will just be enough. For example no real need to paint behind where the mobo sits or back behind where the cable management(if your painting the interior) is because you don't see it when it's closed. So unless you got OCD you can probably stretch 1 can for the case but be prepared to buy another can or two.

Another quick question. Would it be a good idea to use normal spray paint on some of it if I don't have enough plasti-dip? Or should I use all plasti-dip?

Would it look funny?

It depends if you are able to get a nice matching black or color coordinating paint, if you plan it out with certain accents to have a different paint or color I think it'd look pretty good. Plasti-dip does have the advantage of being peeled off, but also lack a bit of contact or abrasion durability compared to paint, so it depends really where it's used.

It could end up looking a little odd considering the differences in texture and finish of paint and plasti-dip. I haven't used white plasti-dip yet but if it's anything like black it'll be something like a satin finish for paint. I think Krylon makes a satin finish white with built in primer in spray form if that brand of paint is available to you it runs for about $6-$7 a can here in Canada. Also I would plasti dip the outside first so that it's all consistent on the outside at least where it will be easier to tell differences between paint and plasti-dip.

Yup that's one thing to consider also when you plasti-dip a case if you have cats or anything it'll end up getting marks pretty quick.

Maybe I will use spray paint on the main chassis, and use plasti-dip on the front panel. I'm gonna think on this one a little.

Oops missed your Guys's posts. Ok. I will probably just stick to one or the other.

Looks good, but it seems like you applied your coats too think...

You're supposed to do like 50 powdery coats, and make it look like this every time:

It looks like the coats were runny and collected at the edges, you can use some paint thinner to smooth out the bubbles by re-liquefying the plasti-dip but this will make it have a glossy finish so another coat will need to be applied to even things out.

yeah, that's kinda what i figured, the paint thinner is a good idea though. it also has bubbles in a few other spots...

Just make sure to let the thinner dry completely before adding another coat, I find the easiest is to just take your finger and slowly saturate the plasti-dip until it liquefies just don't drag too hard or you can peel up the semi solid plasti-dip. This method also works really well if you need to blend different thickness that may occur from the plasti-dip.

ok, sweet. btw: with the coating thickness, i followed the instructions on the can; spray until texture is wet, apply 3-4 coats. i put 5 coats...

Ok, so I tried to paint a logo on the drive bay cover of my case. I cut the logo out of a projecter transparency and used Elmer's craft bond spray glue to stick the stencil to the cover. The logo didn't work and I peeled it off (i used plasti dip). But the problem is, the glue left a residue on the drive bay cover and goo gone won't take it off. So my question is, what should it do now?

attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Acetone, or what is it on? if its inorganic (not plastic) you could try peroxide...

I don't know who said plasti-dip was easy to work with but it took me a few tries to get it right compared to using spray paint, it tends to mist into little droplets instead of evenly coating and levelling itself out like paint does. It dries far quicker so it gives less time to level out, so it's a fine balance between apply thin wet coat over having runs, also there's a lot at play with spraying distance and angle since it can give you a very nice textured if you do lighter coats compared to wetter coats.

I don't think anyone said plasti-dip was easy. Painting in any form does take practice and knowledge of how to paint considering weather conditions unless you have a paint booth. As for the OP it looks good if you had more practice with plasti-dip/spray paint it would've looked great so just keep practicing. As for fixing the bubbles you can do that it's finicky and might not work and like others have said can turn the plasti-dip glossy meaning another thin coat over the area would be needed.
