All of the 970s are sold out. Would it be a bad choice to buy an equaly priced r9 290?

Not really, it's only marginally worse. It's a very capable card still and is not irrelevant.

290 will do fine but the 970 is better

The 290 is still a very good card, but honestly unless you really absolutely can't wait for whatever reason you shouldn't buy a card as second choice only because the first choice is momentarily out of stock...

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

wait until after friday, I expect that the 290s price is going to drop AT LEAST, if there isn't another card released in the r9 300 series.

If youre playing at 1440 then try to save up some more and get a 980

I ran a 7970 for 1440p until it died. (now I'm saving to replace it) a 970 or 290 would be more than plenty for that res.

Why not? A 290 is faster then a 970. If you have the power and the airflow, go for it. 970 is only really advantageous in those two areas if you don't use gsync or gamestream.

I'd just wait for it to come back in stock.

Not only will it likely be fast, but you'll get to see how AMD's cards stack up. Assuming that's what they're releasing in a few days.

I'm sure you can live 3 or 4 days without one to see what might turn out to be a better choice.

Have you checked EVGA's site? They had a ton in stock yesterday when I checked.

The 970 is faster than the 290 in almost every test.

there about equal on performance with 970 being a slight bit better, if equally priced and you can't get 970 I'd say go 290 if you don't wanna wait

The 970 is the faster card.

It's slightly faster then a 780, it's not like you'll notice a difference between the two.

You are using a graph for a gtx 780 vs an amd r9 190, and imo "slightly" is an understatement. At least get an actual gtx 970 vs amd r9 290 graph to argue your point.

Not sure if trolling or serious LOL. GTX 970 is faster by a good margin than the R9 290 I should know cause I am a bit of an R9 AMD Radeon Fanboy and wanted to buy an R9 290 but the fact is that would have made me a biased, ignorant, uninformed, jerkoff, morononic jackaloo so I summon my logic and went with the GTX 970 STRIX which is cheaper and faster.

If logic, then why the Strix.....

Cause it's a really nice card with sexy ass back plate and innovative and high performance low noise cooling solution and great build quality, performance and OCing all for just $380 Canadian dollars. That's why I bought the Asus "Sexy ass" STRIX 970.

Even then if you relinquish your inner fanboy like I did then it would be well advised to go with the better card the ... GTX970.
