If all these rumors are true, Nvidia really pissed me off. I thought the next generation cards were supposed to be budget, now the prices are the same as last year. No new improvements either. You guys really had me excited.

They would somewhat make it better if it were in all black.
Hoho, that would look sexy as hell. On the price, well yea, I don't think high end cards will come at an (for me) affordable price anytime soon.

The "cheaper than current cards" rumor was just that, a rumor. Why would nvidia ever lower the price of their premium cards if they know that it will sell just fine? No sense in getting pissed of at nvidia for a rumor that had no foothold to begin with.

They never mentioned them being budget cards, as far as i can tell. Now i'm just curious on how the card will do in it's price range, and i'm sure the price will drop in the 2 months after the release.

I'm not really surprised by this. What I'm more surprised is that they are still staying with a 256-bit memory bus.

What exactly did you want? A single GPU for triple 4k gaming?

780: Launched at $649, 250W TDP, 3GB VRAM

980: Will Launch at $599, 180W TDP, 4GB VRAM, and supposedly faster than a 780...

I fail to see your complaint.

Anyone knows if they have released information about the Memory architecture, are we going to see GDDR6 on these? :)

I think what they meant by budget (i haven't read them stating that however), is that the lower end cards will now match those of their counterpart (AMD).

If AMD is capable of releasing a relatively capable GPU at a lower price point. I'm certain the GTX 780 would have stayed at $700 if AMD didn't release the 290X, simply because Nvidia has no real competition to worry.

No serious competition, no competitive pricing.

---

That aside, I am a little disappointed in the pricing. I wish the GTX 980 would be $550 at maximum MSRP, because I couldn't justify spending anymore than that on a single GPU. The 970 at $400 is relatively decent, though, and I'm not upset with it. I nearly purchased my 770 at that price, but ended up waiting and jumped as soon as there was a price cut.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Well if you look at the Maxwell architecture in depth you'd see it's that isn't not really meant to improve overall performance that much but rather improve performance per watt which is one of the most important things in the future of computing so they're really just setting themselves of the course for the future. So with that in mind of course the first generation of lower power cores are going to be a bit underwhelming with performance because that's not what they're targeting to achieve.

I totally agree, I was just really hoping I'd be getting a 980. I'll most likely get a 780 6GB or 970.

I REALLY hope they don't use the GTX 780 Ti as an excuse to raise the price of the GTX 980, instead of GTX x80s being 499 as previous I speculate they might start beginning at 599.

I would have liked a 980, but I wouldn't buy one as an upgrade from a 780. I'd much rather pick up a second 780 for SLI than a 980 at this point. A powerful single GPU is nice, but when I could get a much bigger performance boost at a lower price, I'll jump on that instead.

Not sure why you are surprised by the price... Most of us knew there was no way it'll come under 550$, 599$ is the sweet spot for it where it can still undercut AMD.

2048 cuda cores is the most disappointing i'm hopefully 2nd generation maxwell pulls something interesting out of the bag.
