Best for gaming? 2x24" 2x27" or 1x34"

Spooner15

First gaming build so I have no idea what monitor setup to run. I have always gamed on a 17" laptop so anything is going to look amazing, However I have a pretty decent budget so I want what i'm going to enjoy best.

My main focus is gaming.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/74NYf7 - This will pretty much be my build. Depending on how much I need I will be running 2 780ti's SLI or one of the new GTX cards but we will have to wait and see.

I have this narrowed down to 3 options.

2x24" 1080p - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313 With this option I would probably be running 3 monitors eventually. But this is only 1080p.

2x27" 1440p/1080p - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236405 / http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236362 If this will actually work and wont be too much of a headache then this is a decent option.

1x34" 1440p - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2RY1P38086 As of now I am leaning toward this option. Just wondering if it is really worth it or if there is a better alternative.

Thanks

I hope your plan isn't to use the two monitors to have the game spread across them? Because that doesn't work...

for gaming you need a uneven number of screens

The pixel density is way too low for my taste on a 34" screen. Also, you need an odd number of screens to play in Surround.

Not at all. Game on 1 and use the other for internet or other things.

I would get a plain 1440p monitor for the build.

Great quality. 2 Monitors is very nice for mulit tasking which i do a lot of. The 1x34" is an option because it seems like it would be awesome to game on. And I would have to run a laptop for the 2nd screen. Which I really dont have a problem.

Also I know that you need at least 3 monitors to play in surround. I do not plan to play in surround.

I'd say, 1x27in 1440p or 2x24in 1080p. Or possibly One 27in 1440p with a 24in 1080p.

Higher screen sizes with those resolutions don't look that great.

As you know, Linus loves his 34'' Dell Ultrawide and for gaming I'd probably agree with him for the main reason that there are no bezels mid-screen and also because some games don't work as well with tri-monitor setups (or dual monitors, unless you're using one for skype/internet and the other for gaming). I myself am looking into 3x 24'' 1080p screens; take that as you want but that's what I think I prefer.

Hope I helped :)

Check Linus's Review on the ASUS RoG Swift http://youtu.be/XdqTIfNv2DE?list=UUXuqSBlHAE6Xw-yeJA0Tunw

But I would not Go with a 1080p monitor Unless your Rig can not handle it.

I have seen both the ROG Swift review and the LG review. Both look amazing. Really just looking for some advice to help my decision. These things are the hardest to decide on..

Budget is $3000 for the tower and monitor. Although it's looking for what I want I am going to bust my budget a little bit. Which I am content with.

Any idea what the dell is going to cost?

Then go with the 34 inch Wide screen. that I linked Multiple monitors are a bit hard to get use to and the 34 inch you can still do split screen if you so choose.

You do realise that 34" screen has the same pixel density as a 27" 1440p screen?

Yea, I realized, I thought he was talking about a standard 16:9 34" 1080P screen. My bad

Ok, so I have pretty much decided on the 2 27" monitors due to setting this up will be a lot easier than I had originally thought. Now my question would be what is a good monitor to go with the PG278Q?

I had picked out this monitor, But I am wondering if this monitor is any good? Mainly picked it because of the slim bezel. All i am looking for in the second screen is to use for internet and music.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236362 - the 2nd monitor to go with the ROG Swift.
