Let me be clear that I'm Atheist and I probably don't have any intention of converting or changing my mind any time soon but I've been reading this pretty fascinating book called "What the Buddha Taught" that really breaks down his ideals and principles with the most accurate translations I've read to date. I'm interested if anyone here is a Buddhist or believe in part/or all of a Buddha's teachings.

Please refrain from flame wars. :)

im hindu, a lot of people here dont believe in god or as i call it, a higher more intelligent power.

What i believe is humans have thought they are the most intelligent creatures, we cant compute something being better then us so we called it god, whether for the better or worse.

I believe what we call god is a more intelligent being then us but not this ultimate being which is just everything and knows everything.

Nope, not Buddhist.

However, well done for expressing your interests, there are some awesome books you can read about Buddhism.

Thanks man. I've realized that a lot of his ideals coincide with what I believe in: for example, that the power for change doesn't lie in some judging God or deity but in yourself. We as human beings are our own temples and can dictate our own happiness and peace. One of the most compelling arguments for Buddhism is the removal of labels. The Buddha didn't believe in giving things labels, things just are, or just exist. The other thing I really agree with is that desire creates suffering. Things are constantly subject to change so by desiring them we are putting ourselves in a position to experience disappointment or anger. Really cool stuff me thinks.

Buddhists I've met have been really easy to get on with, where it was treated more as a philosophy than a religion. From my understanding Buddhism carries basic atheist positions, so it's not like those labels have to clash with each other. Once you've torn down the idea of gods, Buddhism can build something in its place. That's kind of how it was briefly presented to me, and while I'm curious, I haven't really dug into it. :)

Hello sir, do you have time to talk about our Lord and Saviour Gabe Newell?

---------------

I'm from China; China is where Buddhism was a thing even though government is Communist, that fact shows how much Buddhism is cool with everything.

I still don't believe it; but I don't see Crusades driven by Buddhism.

Anyone who has a sister hates the fact that his sister isn't Kasugano Sora.
Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...

I wouldn't call Buddhism a religion... It's more a path, a path to do your own path. There is no more thing to dictate you what to do than yourself, it's just a way to live, to feel free, to get on with the rest of the people. It's about don't judge people, just help...

I'm not Buddhist, in fact, I'm atheist, but as a kung fu practicer that I'm, for more than 10 years, I feel some affinity with this.

I believe in science, and I think that a man, who turns water into wine, a man who heals diseases, die and come back to live, is difficult to believe, although it's more credible for me, that we're energy, in fact we are, and when we die, our energy turns into other things, or just join the rest of the energy in the world...

Religions are fine to make people confortable, to help them and give them faith, are good to help people to love each others, but sometimes it turns into fanatism and hate, it's not its purpose. At least catholicism/christianism

I'm not sure if you could understand what I mean, it's my first debate about this topic in English hehe

Learning from Spain, don't be rude if I can't understand everything you write down to me O_o'

Buddism is very interesting...It is a great way of life I think. But no. I am an agnostic atheist....Buddha the person I have a little more issues with...I just have a little problem with believing anything that was written down 400 years after the fella was dead. There is simply no way that any of what is attributed to him are the actual words he spoke.

I am happy no one is forcing their belief on any of us here.. I was raised as catholic but, I am kind of in a phase where I do not know what I want to be. Or even if I want to pin myself down to just one religion. I think it will be fun to continue growing and keep an open mind while learning about all the religions in the world.
