2 monitor setup question

Hello linustechtips members!

 

I have an old VGA monitor that's connected with my motherboard, And I want to buy a new monitor for a 2 monitor setup.

 

So the question is, Can I use my old VGA monitor with my new monitor that i'm going to buy? for example, the new monitor will be connected to my GPU, and my old VGA monitor will be connected to my motherboard.

 

I'll be using my new monitor for gaming and my other VGA monitor will be used for other tasks..etc.

 

Will they work together without any drawbacks?

You might have to enable the iGPU in your BIOS, but other than that it should work.

Yes, but you have to enable the iGPU in the BIOS after you've installed the GPU. Alternatively you can get a VGA to DVI adapter and use the DVI-I port, if your GPU has one, for the VGA monitor.

I'm not sure about drawbacks, but I know that I used to use a VGA on my motherboard and a hdmi on my gpu and it ran fine.

Yes, they should work fine. You could buy a VGA adapter and run both off your GPU if you run into an issue with the motherboard and GPU together.

EDIT:

IT should work fine, I just went and tried it with no real issues, kind of strange regardless though. I mean I guess it makes sense if your GPU is really under powered though.
