Intel NUC Steam Machines

snowComet

FanlessTech.com was able to obtain some slides that looks like official slides from Intel, indicating that the new boardwell-based NUCs may be coming next yr, the earliest is in Q1 2015. And aside from the usually features like 2.5" drive space, wifi, or USB 3.0, it seems some may come with some unique features like replaceable lids for  nfc & wireless charging,  m2 ssd, and etc. But interestingly thunderbolt is still not available on these new NUCs.

✓ Broadwell NUC officially moved to Q1 2015

✓ i5 version aimed at serious gaming (SteamBox anyone?)

✓ i5 and i3 versions aimed at content creation (full desktop replacement?)

✓ M.2 storage and 2.5" bay, or M.2 storage only for super slim chassis

✓ Kisses external USB 2.0 ports goodbye

✓ Bids adieu to mSATA SSD

✓ Entry-level Braswell (Bay Trail's successor) version available in Q2

✓ Braswell SKU to feature TOSLINK jack and SDXC UHS-I card slot (nice)

✓ All compatible with 3rd party fanless chassis

I would love to buy one for gaming. It would be cheaper than a Brix Pro more than likely.

Awesome. I was thinking about getting an Intel NUC for XMBC/Plex and Steam in-home streaming. I reckon the Broadwell i5 would be perfect. Those things are probably gonna run nice and cool.

http://www.zdnet.com/leaked-specs-suggest-intels-nuc-2-0-pcs-could-be-future-steam-machines-7000032973/

Long story short, Intel is claiming their iGPU on I3/5 Broadwell will be more powerful than Kaveri. They claim these NUCs will run cooler than ever. Lastly they claim these will make great steam machines. These launch Q1 next year.

Broadwell desktop confirmed for Q1 2015.

Cool and I could see that being true. It's about time Intel brung out some integrated CPU's that are comparable to AMD's integrated CPU parts.
