I have a reference HD 6870. Performs like a 260X yet uses practically the same cooler as the 290.

At 100% fan speed...... it hits 90-100 degrees in furmark or gaming (but surprisingly it doesn't throttle)

On my 6570 it happily hit 65, but then I decided to overclock it, unplug the fan, and run Furmark and it shot to 105C. And it died. :D

You say 82C like its something horrible. I know someone who leaves his EVGA gtx 780 SC with reference cooler on factory settings while playing bf4 for hours and hours at a time. That means the card basically sits at 80-82 degrees for hours at a time on a regular basis. He's done this for the half year he's had the card and its still doing fine.

Wtf? How does it idle @ 80c? Do you live on the Sun?
You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?

It's a GTX 560 ti with a dual monitor set up. One is 2560x1440 and the other is 1280x1024. If I unplug the 1280x1024 display, it drops down to 40c idle =P
