Pretty much every one supports it.

Mine does and mine is a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H

It does a really good job, it works really well so far. No problems yet.

Compatible with Windows 95

Unless you have already bought it and cannot return it I suggest getting a Xeon 1231 V3 as it is newer (Haswell > Ivy) and is clocked slightly higher.

If you are going for Haswell, it's 1150

Ivy/Sandy bridge is 1155

What is this build for? I would highly suggest you DO NOT get a Xeon if you are going to be primarily gaming. You would be better off getting an i5 4690k or if you really need the extra threads, an i7 4790k. Unless this is for a server or some sort of workstation I would recommend the i series processors.

i was wondering if the xeon e3-1230 ivy bridge would be compatable with the biostar mobo. A lot of people said that some mobo's don't support xeons so im honestly just confused.

Agreed. The only case u would need a Xeon is if u do a lot of professional video and picture work

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

people told me that the xeon v2 is just about equivelent as the i7. im really cheap and in canada the 4690k is actually more expensive then the xeon. i have an amd a8-6500, so the xeon v2 will be like 10x better.

Are they even better for that? I thought they weren't good at that either.

Not true the low end ones do not preform about the same. If you saw Linus's video. He put a $2500 Xeon against the i7 4790 and it preformed the same. DO NOT GET A $200 XEON. Get a i5 4690K. The 4690K preforms nearly the same a i7 4790K barely any performance difference. http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408985427&sr=8-1&keywords=i5+4690k

If you are only gaming you would be better off getting an i5 4690k and OC that bad boy.

Put up a poll of which CPU to get. Everyone will tell you the 4690K

Assuming 0 overclocks then a Xeon is simply a superb choice. Its price is often the same as a top-notch I5 but has hyper threading. Also the xeon does not perform worse in gaming as has been shown by our lords and saviors @LinusTech and @Slick . Assuming equal binning and equal winnings in the "Silicon lottery" there is no performance difference between an I7 and a xeon.

VS

i5: http://www.ncix.com/detail/intel-core-i5-4690k-unlocked-c2-97889-1046.htm $249

The i5 is the better deal, especially for gaming, if you get a good aftermarket cooler you can easily OC that to 4.6 or so which i5 @ 4.6ghz >>>>> Xeon @ 3.3ghz for gaming

DO NOT GET A $200 XEON.

The Xeon 1231-V3 is an amazing CPU and costs $250 as opposed to the $340 of an I7-4790k. The Xeon 1231-V3 is a perfect choice if you do not want to OC.

But why wouldn't you get a 4690K for cheaper?

- A xeon generally is more stable and lasts longer

- A xeon has hyper-threading and a 4690k does not, giving you the video editing performance of an I7 for about the price of an I5 (I can get a 1230-V3 for less than a 4690k)

- A xeon is a much better choice if you do not intend to upgrade again for a substantial amount of time (looking at 4-6 years) since by then games will most likely be able to use more than 4 cores/threads.
