I don't think the point of the ice bucket challenge is to have normal/not famous people to do it. who would watch it? maybe five? ten people? it's ment to get famous to do it then their fans will donate as well as said person that did the challenge

The cause is noble, but I'm annoyed with the Facebook tards that do this as a fad without a sodding clue what ALS even is. That and it's bad for drought stricken regions like California and Texas.

I haven't done it, but I know plenty who have. I think it's great and all, it is helping raise awareness for ALS and donations are at record highs because of it.

I think it's terrible that some people don't know what ALS is and they do the IBC anyways, but I also don't like when companies try to profit off the very concept.

And the water supply thing? Fracking wastes more water than it, as does bathing and showering. How about nuclear plants? And this, that and the other thing. People get too wound up thinking about it, when there are things in the world that use more water.

Raising awareness is great, but I feel like there should be other ways to do it. But I have my doubts as to the actual amount this contributes to finding a cure/improving treatment.

All your listed things have tangible benefits. In mot of the developed world, the small amount of water isn't really an issue. But wasting water is still an issue regardless of how little it is. It instills a mindset in young kids that water is something to be taken for granted and not a valuable resource.

I never understood the water wasting hate, I use more water on my car and that goes back into the aquifer below my house. Eventually.

Stephen Hawking has it. Depending on how you look at it he's lucky because he's lived with it for over 50 years, most people don't live past 3.

It got out of hand with all the people doing it with out know what it is for but it did help to raise awareness and millions for the ALS association so of course it a good thing. Anyone who says otherwise is just being a troll or butt hurt for no reason. The only place I think you should be worried about this being done is in drought areas. Even then just give up your evening bath/shower and I fail to see the water being wasted.

Yeah, I get it. I don't disagree, but I think people worry too much about the whole water waste thing. And no matter how you do it, sadly water will be wasted.

It's a muscular dystrophy disease, It slowly cripples you until you are left unable to move through the loss of muscle tissue.

Well there is a drought in the south western part of America at the moment. Then again those people use more water in their pools :P

There's a drought in California. There's always a drought in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Utah and Colorado, but California likes attention.

My grandfather was diagnosed with it a few weeks before he passed away. (It's already been a month since he's gone) he had had lung problems for a long time, but his ALS effected his ability to eat and breathe properly. So he had to be tube fed and on a respirator. If he ate normally he would choke and not be able to swallow or cough. It finally got to the point that he wasn't able to get enough oxygen and he went into a coma. He came to a few times and requested to go home with a DNR (do not resuscitate)

He passed away a few days after he was home.

I'm making a donation when I get paid later this month and already did the challenge and recorded it. I even got diagnosed last year with a type of that sclerosis shit but what the hell, this needs to be done, if not for the donation to the foundation, for the awereness.
