Does god exsist?

Today I had a debate with my friend regarding god. I am an atheist, therefore don't believe in supernatural existence. Previously, I used to be Christian, but I never understood it's teachings and the actions mankind performed in the name of god. Is any religion legitimate? I have been debating with myself for quite some time.

Im Catholic (not super catholic just born that way) and we are "taught" that god is real but no one knows and quiet frankly there is no real evidence. These days everyone lies so who knows. All i know is that religion has caused a lot of stupid wars so if they are found to be fake then look what they have done to us.
