I've overclocked my processor a tad but once I received it but I never bothered going higher and higher with the clock. The processor I'm using in my build is the Intel Core i7-4770k and it comes with the stock clock of 3.50GHz. Right now, I've overclocked my processor and it's sitting at 4.00GHz and receiving pretty decent temperatures. I'm reaching temperatures of 40 °C on my processor, I'll have other temperatures posted below if interested. I'm using the Corsair H100i cooler to cool my processor. I went from 3.50GHz to 4.00GHz without changing the voltage, I've just changed the "Auto" in my BIOS to 40 (4.00GHz) and it booted and I've had no problems since! Would it be worth it to overclock this machine to 4.50GHz? If so, I hope you pals can help me out with this! If you want to help and have Skype please post it below or PM me it!

*PS. I heard that the more RAM you have in the system the harder it'll be to achieve a higher clock, is this true? If so, DAMN*

Specs:

OS: Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k (Running @ 40 °C)

RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400MHz

I don't know if more memory affects overclocking, but I think that it's related to the RAM speed (don't quote me on that one, I'm not sure).

So, to get a great overclock on your CPU, you will probably have to get the memory speed down a little bit, to like 2133MHz, or 1866MHz. That being said, you don't lose pretty much any performance in actual regular use.

40C looks like something is wrong.

4GHz on stock voltage? Something is definitely wrong.

Are you properly stress testing your CPU for stability with the intel extreme tuning utility? Your CPU must be at 100% load to know if it is stable.

What temperature monitoring software are you using?

4GHz on stock voltage is easy...the chip turbos to 3.9. It's just another 100Mhz

Oh I thought you OCd the 3.4GHz

What did you use to stress test?

That's the problem, I don't know what software to use to stress test once I overclock! Got anything, you recommend me? (Free, if possible) and... How long should I run the software for?

I've been using it for weeks and months and been rendering it (CPU at 100% full load) and it's stable so far, so I think I'm fine at 4.0GHz.

4K Porn

But seriously, 4K Gaming & Video.

Sometimes I render footage, sometimes I don't.

Might want to get a better GPU.  Like, 2 of them.

In terms of overclocking, it will help tremendously for editing and rendering, for gaming, it will help some depending on the game.

Not using AUTO Vcore voltage are you?

That's what I was thinking, I hope he's not just pumping gobs of voltage through it.

OP, do a bit of researching on safe voltages and stress tests before you push that thing too far. 4.5 isn't very hard to achieve with a lot of 4770Ks but it can be difficult on a lot of them too. I guess if you've been putting it under load for decent lengths of time 6-30 minutes with no crash you're probably doing pretty good. Check your voltage though.

You are idling with 40C? Thats too hot with H100i unless your ambient is around 30C. Your idle should be around 35C. For stressing, OCCT, Aida, XTU, IBT.

+1 for AIDA64

has everything you need to help with overclocking

DO NOT use Prime w/Haswell, especially with 2400Mhz DIMM's, it's a nightmare, and the results are fairly irrelevant besides the temperatures generated under load (I got screen locks at every single OC unless I was in JDEC, wouldn't even throw me a BSOD). AIDA64 is the way to go.

You may/may not have stability issues w/the 2400 kit. I've used G Skill 2400's on an i5-4690k, i5-4670k, and an i7-4770k, all had stable OC's from 4.5-4.7, just be aware that you will more than likely need your uncore @ -2-300Mhz off the core clock, I only got one of those chips to do a 1:1 ratio @ 2400. If you want to be really thorough with the OC set the RAM to JDEC and find your max OC on the CPU, then incrementally bump up the RAM to rated (although leave the voltage at rated for all speeds). If you hit instability at 2400 you can always leave it at a lower speed and try to tighten down the timings to eek out a bit more performance.

Yeah

XTU is always the best+safest option
