Who else got their A level results today?

MrTomnus

So I got my A level results today... My entire school didn't do amazingly. There were only three people who got ABB, and two of those were BTECs.

I myself didn't quite get what I wanted. I got BBCC. I was predicted an A in two subjects and for one an A*. Also my maths grade was messed up - a module I took which shouldn't have been included was used in my final score which made it lower, and I was one mark off the boundary for my Physics grade.

But it doesn't matter, because I got into the university I wanted to! I'll be going to study computer science in September, and it's all because of @LinusTech. I saw the channel for the first time two years ago and since then my love for technology has only grown. I used to be a console peasant, but now have built 2 PCs that are working perfectly, and I plan to watercool one as soon as possible - if the uni fees are manageable, that is... So thank you Linus, and everyone who's helped me on the forum, for teaching me all these things about computers  :)

I hope everyone else's experience with grades have been okay. I didn't get what I should have done, and I know what that feels like :( But just remember that there''s always next year, or clearing!

Me and A lot of people I know didn't do well either, boundaries must have been really high.

I got ACCC in my AS Levels, Only a C in computing cause I screwed up the theory paper( but did well in the Project, which to me is really what counts), but at least I got an A in maths.

Kind of disappointed but at least I've still got my A2s to pick up my computing grade-hopefully

The whole A level shizzle and BBCC is jibberish to me. The only BBC I know made good comedy series in the past :P

Anyway, congratulations and good luck. University is a pain ^-^

Hey, better than what I got last year. I didn't do three of my exams, so fail, fail, fail, D and a E. AS level by the way. But things happened back then which stopped all education of mine.

Anyway, well done on your results. It's still a solid pass and something to be truly proud off. :)

two u grades and two e grades

For reference ive never under a c grade in my life until now.(i was predicted A in all four subjects)

no im not taking it well, i put my heart and soul into revision i would do a stupid amount of past papers everyday and get 90+% in them and then this, rock bottem.

As for the aftermath ive been kicked out of my college.

So then if any of you guys think you have done bad then quit being a bitch, accept the facts.

-snip-

Sorry to hear that :( I tried to revise as much as I could, even put a wall of revision in my room, but obviously it wasn't enough for me to get what I wanted. I could have gone to southampton to study aeronautics and astronautics but I didn't get the A*AA they were asking for.

Unfortunately sometimes life isn't fair. And hey, what do you have to lose? You have a lot of choices now. It's certainly not over for you, so don't worry :)

Hey that's not too bad. Generally people's grades go up in A2, but I certainly didn't see that with mine :/ Good luck!

Well, I got DDD in my AS-levels, despite being an A/B borderline student.

BUT GUISE, it's OK, because I go to a comprehensive school, so Ds are mighty fine.

And in general, I can still go to the uni of my choice, so I did okay I think

Why would going to a comprehensive school change what grade you get?  Isn't a D near fail?

I got 2Ds, 2Cs and a B in general studies. As it's my AS year, I'm probably going to resit the year and try to get them up, and change a subject or two, so that I can do CS/Software development at university.

Considering I'm one of the top students in my school, and have never tanked in exams before, it hasn't exactly left me feeling great.

Why would going to a comprehensive school change what grade you get?  Isn't a D near fail?

An E is a pass at A-Level (technically)

And comprehensive schools in a Grammar school area makes for shit grades. There is no competition in comprehensive schools. In other schools like (but very unlike) mine, you get people who walk As at A-Level, but if you have a school full of bozos then you will someday succumb to being a bozo too.

So yes, it really does make a difference whether or not you go to a grammar school; simply because the comprehensive system in my area is a damning failure.

I'll give myself as an example: I was on 5a science, 5b maths and 5a english when I got into my school. I just got 3 Ds. That is the comprehensive system at work.

As opposed to my brother, who went to the grammar school on lower initial grades than myself, he got 12 A*s at GCSE and today, he got 1 A*, 3 As and 1 C at A2 and got into Nottingham to do Natural Science. That is the fucking grammar school system at work. The comprehensive system never works, it encourages mediocre-ness.

Unlucky, I've got a couple of friends who are at Aston Uni studying Chemical Engineering and they say it's pretty good so hopefully you get the place.

It was quite different at the comprehensive in Solihull I went to; there was plenty of competition between friends.  Admittedly, if you aren't mixed in with smart people then you're not likely to strive.  AS and A Levels are quite a big step up from GCSEs though.  GCSEs were a walk in the park that didn't need revision unlike A Levels.  Well done to your brother, surely his achievements are through his own hard work though rather than them all being down to the school he attended.

I went to a comprehensive when we got a grade lower than our targets we would get pulled out of tutor in the mornings and told about all the wonderful intervention that we had to go to. You must have had some lazy ass teachers.

I can count on my hands the number of times I got a challenging homework during my school career.

There is no motivation to do well here, they are happy with a C at GCSE or an E at A-Level. This is where the comprehensive system fails. Bozo-ism is rife.

That's nothing like the schooling system I was in, homework was chased up and you were made to do it in detention.
