sounds good. dual gpu, especially nvidia, is always nice for driving high res games. 4Gb should be enough for now.

If one does not fail at times, then one has not challenged himself.

No, the 770 wont utlize the 4GB Frame Buffer as nearly as well as a 290, so, get your self a R9-290 Gaming from MSI or a Gigabyte WF for a bout $400

you're forgeting something, something AMD is giving nVidia a run for it's money with, Memory interface, we all know that a 4GB by 512 bit is far far better than by a 256 bit bus witch is used in the 770s

Yeah I second the R9 290 idea, maybe even try get Crossfire 290s, it would not cost that much more than sli 770s

It comes down to total bandwidth, not just the memory bus. Nvidia uses faster memory and the bandwidth requirements simply aren't as high with its unified L2 cache. The memory bus itself says very little, my GT8800 has a 256bit bus, a GTX 280 has a 512bit bus, a gtx480 has a 384bit bus, etc. etc. The memory bus alone says very little, it depends on the architecture and on other components as well. Yes, the R9 290 still gives the GTX770 a run for its money, without a doubt. And it performs even better in high res scenarios, but the "a 4GB 770 can't even utilize the 4GB" rumors are not true. SLI 770s with 4GB have enough horsepower to justify the 4GB and they will perform pretty well, even in high res scenarios. Again, two R9 290s would totally wreck them in terms of performance, but it doesn't mean that this setup doesn't make any sense.

pick the GTX780 6GB or the GTX780Ti

GTX770 is really weak

I didn't think a 290/x would be enough for 3k gaming (triple monitor)

it is generally playable

and for the price he is paying for dual GTX770

he can go dual 290s CrossFire which stomps the GTX770 SLi

Than pick GTX 780 or GTX 780TI, at least they have more bandwidth & memory bus than GTX 770.

Even though an r9 290 costs about the same as a 770 in some countries and performs like a 780?

well if you read what OP was planning

3 way 1080P monitor gaming is too much for the GTX770 to handle

and you should be aware that not all games have perfect SLi profiles for multi monitor gaming so he may be stuck with just one GPU power

i know, that's why i suggest a 290, 'im talking about the term u used, GTX 770 is weak, yes it can drive the latest titles with Multi monitors at 60FPS but can get around 35~40FPS witch isn't weak AT ALL, you get my point now

Sticking with SLi GTX 770 4GB = Poor. Life. Choice.

If a game or program either doesn't scale well with multi-GPU's or doesn't support SLi / Crossfire, it WILL be disappoint.

Depends on how many frames you require to enjoy the experience. I drove 3 1080s with a single 760 and bf4 was completely playable (old rig in my sig).

Obviously I upgraded, but for some players ultra gfx/fps isn't quite as important.

R9 290 is the best bet atm, if you care about diminishing returns on your investment. I am skeptical an 870 or 880 will be anything but another 9000 GTX series spiritual repeat, but until legit bench results can be published by multiple sources confirming this, go with a 290, you won't regret it.

All of them. But honestly probably either one GPU with at least 4gb or two GPU with 2 or 3gb each
