Recap
DirectX 12 save more than 50% of CPU power compared to DirectX 11.

When allowed to use equivalent power to DirectX 11, DirectX 12 can also yield 50% better FPS performance.

DirectX 12 can run and show these improvements on a wide variety of devices including Microsoft’s flagship device the Surface Pro 3.

now we can see why intel wanted access to experiment with mantle.

That might be that little thing they wanted to get the Mantle SDK for :)

This isn't like Nvidia's "up to 71% performance increase" thing, is it?

nope, even though we have no conclusing evidence from a third party but from the speculatios floating around and MS definition of the api, we can assume mantle like cpu overhead reduction, hence lowered cpu clocks for the same amount of work and as a byproduct possibly higher clocks on the gpu equating to more frames drawn.

ps. sorry for the massive run on sentence but this is stream of consciousness.

They have the largest portion of the graphics market.

Not an accurate statement. Millions upon millions of Intel CPUs are sold that have integrated GPUs, but those integrated GPUs are never, ever, used. Its an absurd and completely false statement that Intel has the largest portion of the graphics market. Also, the type of games that actually need this extra performance gain are games that can't be played on an integrated GPU in the first place.

What do you think drives a display? Yes they are used. The fact is that more computers use integrated graphics than discrete graphics.

This is so wrong on so many levels. Check the steam hardware survey to get a better picture. Also do you know what games get the most play? Mobas, mmos and flash games. These games would benefit massively because it allows cheaper and slower hardware to play these games. This is kinda why league of legends only supports dx9.

They are worth it though. I own the surface pro 2.

But, mine first gen stopped working for no reason, plus I ain't paying 1000 dollars for a tablet laptop hybrid when I could either build me a better PC or buy a Asus APU laptop

But the 3rd one though, that I would buy if I had cash

You'll have to wait until release to know for sure, but for now it looks like it will work fine.

What's impressive, is that they show this on the Surface Pro 3. This system throttles very easily when pushed, due to the high power CPU and small form factor. It's definitely not an issue if you do anything else beside PC gaming or running some crazy simulation or such for the hardware specs, but still. They could have easily used the Pro 2 which has the same hardware, and the dual fan and larger heatsinks would provide, potentially, better results.

So, I think we are seeing results that are very possible, and not under ideal conditions.

If you have a GCN card you will support it. Since you pretty much have Mantle in DirectX12, yet it got renamed to Direct3D for obvious reasons.

Intel calls them APUs now?

The stone cannot know why the chisel cleaves it; the iron cannot know why the fire scorches it. When thy life is cleft and scorched, when death and despair leap at thee, beat not thy breast and curse thy evil fate, but thank the Builder for the trials that shape thee.
