For each person, there is always ONE sound that drives them insane. So I have a list of sounds that is a common pet peeve among different groups of people.

So I will ask you; Which of these noises is a noise that you want to hear the last?

Imbeciles who talk. And children.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Coil Whine

The ticking of analog clocks, they drive me mad—I cannot sleep in a house with analog clocks.

Both options have been added.

Imbeciles who talk. And children.

LOL That is not exactly a sound.

People chewing with their mouths open. Sometimes I have to move to another room in the house cause it annoys me so much.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

You should add screaming children, crying babies and people talking... I freaking hate that one in particular.

The do produce sound though.

People chewing with their mouths open. Sometimes I have to move to another room in the house cause it annoys me so much.

Perhaps I should have clarified.

I'm not talking about the kind of sounds that make you go "ugh... not again!". I am referring to sound bytes that can drive people mentally insane, if given a chance.

Maybe that was not the best of explanations, but I hope you get my point.

I chose absolute silence because apparently the longest anyone has been able to stay in an anechoic chamber without suffering anxiety is 45 minutes.  The other sounds only bother me if they are interfering noises, noise of any type by itself doesn't annoy me.

Although I will say abnormal noise from the engine of my car really piss me off, but that's for a whole other reason.

Myth

vidia

Cool, except that he describes anxiety at the end of his video (feeling the heart and blood pump is classic anxiety, which would have been around the 45 minute mark I'm guessing), I haven't  watched the second one yet.

The second one is just unedited because internet trolls need proof.

After an hour of nothing, I'd think most anyone would get anxious due to boredom, not really a symptom of silence.

Well, I am not surprised at the results here, but it does contradict my personal view of the question.

I have grown to ignore the analog ticks and blackboard scratching, but the "slow" sirens really gets on my nerves. Popping wind is a close second as you can feel the sound attacking your eardrums.

I would like to see what the general LTT crowd thinks, so keep the answers coming!

I don't think anyone knows whether it's the silence that causes it or a form of claustrophobia or even isolation.  What is known is that anxiety is not a conscious state but the bodies reaction (extended Adrenalin release over time) to a usually subconscious condition (usually a lack of ability to deal with an environment e.g work, social, confined spaces or airplane travel).  Given that he states (as do many) that he was concentrating really hard, that the body could have automatically gone into a flight fight response because it can no longer predict safety or danger in it's usual setting.

To be clear I am not talking about the BS of hallucinations and whatever else people may reckon happens.  I'd love to try this for myself but I have a feeling my tinnitus will send me around the bend before anything else happens.
