Lenovo Y50-70 seems to good for the cash, Is there a catch

i been shopping about for a laptop for a while, the Lenovo i had (RIP) a Lenovo t510 was a good work horse.

anyways I am looking for a quad crore as a bit of an upgrade putting me mostly onto gamming style laptops.  i that respect i found

Processor   Intel Core i7-4710HQ Processor( 2.50GHz 1600MHz 6MB)

Operating system  Windows 8.1 64

Display type  15.6" Ultra HD IPS Glare LED Backlit 3840x2160

System Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 4GB

Total memory  16.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz

Hard drive device  1TB + 8GB

Optical device  DVD Recordable

Network card  Lenovo BGN Wireless

for about £1000 (with student ds) otherwise £1100 you get the quad core a good gpu with 4gb vram, a 4k ips screen!, 16gb ram,

i can’t find any hands on reviews of the uhd model.  Some for the 1080p but not the 4k

is the uhd screen just poo, like 30hz poo or is it better.  Lenovo are not that forthcoming.

4k used to cost allot making me suspicious finding it at this price point as otherwise the spec is crazy for the cash.

I guessing there are probably also thermal issues (but how bad), this thing could be a linus video

Has anyone got hands on experience allot of the threads are from ces in January,  now its in shops and I assume people own them

The catch is the build quality. It's nothing amazing, plastic and such. Still great specs though.

The 4k is most likely in 24Hz (The max HDMI can support at the very moment) unless they utilize displayport/thunderbolt internally (doubt it though).Let me just tell you though, 4k on a 15.6" monitor is the biggest waste of space ever (literally only dickwaiving rights). 1080p is more than enough for a 15.6" screen.

Lower cost 4K panels tend to be TN based, that in of itself could be the flaw. -shrug-

It's a Lenovo. That alone puts it in a tier above the crap from Dell and HP...two tiers above Acer.

I thought the new Lenovo has a aluminium body construction which is why it's kind of light.

Don't those laptops have a GTX860M? Those WILL NOT handle 4k well at all. I genuinely want to know now why Linus is impressed.

IPS 4K monitors cost $3000. I doubt it is IPS :P.

Only TN 4k monitors are semi-affordable at the moment.

It's 48Hz 4K according to owners. Dunno if it's just doubled 24hz though.

HDMI 1.4 was released on May 28, 2009, and the first HDMI 1.4 products were available in the second half of 2009.[111][144] HDMI 1.4 increases the maximum resolution to 4K × 2K, i.e. 3840×2160 (Ultra HD) at 24 Hz/25 Hz/30 Hz or 4096×2160 (4) at 24 Hz (which is a resolution used with digital theaters) - Wikipedia HDMI page

TN consumes less power and is simply cheaper. Keeping laptops affordable > Better color-production for the average person.
