Safe to stress test before assembling loop with just the Intel stock cooler?

Before assembling the loop and system in the case, when stress testing outside (say on a mobo box), it it safe to test the the CPU (in this case, 4790K) with only the stock intel cooler?

Would I be better off testing it in the case (with the basic fans that come with it), or out on a mobo box with maybe a small desktop fan pointed at it?

What benchmarks should I use before actually assembling the system and custom loop in the case? Prime 95 + a GPU benchmark?

Of course the extensive benchmarks come after final assembly, but this is just for the initial 24hr burn in that Linus recommends before actually building the system in the case.

You dont need to do any stress testing. just make sure it works

The stock cooler is safe, it's just noisy as hell when it ramps up, and on very stressful situations it can cause throttling.

No one recommends a 24 hour stress test before assembling, not even Linus. Unless you are ready to go for a custom loop right now there is no point on doing such a test before building it.

It's pretty useful to torture the system to see if the OC is perfectly stable or to see how it performs, but Prime95 is not necessary, it's an unreal scenario that will never occur, even Aida 64 is. If you are using Prime95, be sure you selected the option that blocks the program from messing with your voltages. Intel Burn test is enough to test things and check OCs.
