AMD Planning To Make SSD

MauricioGomez

What's the point or goal they will achieve when they enter the SSD/storage world?

This is so pointless there are so many SSD manufacturers out there that nobody will care if AMD start to sell SSD's except maybe AMD fanboys

It's as dumb as AMD rebranding RAM and selling it. Oh wait, they already do that. What's their market share on those? Too low for anyone to even care...

SSD market is saturated and they are all somehow connected to the big 3 anyways. Micron, Samsung, Toshiba.

Do they seriously think they're going to make any decent money from this?

AMD have a strange marketing scheme. Why don't they not waste time on this shit and spend their efforts on something more meaningful? Say, a line of CPU's to compete with Intel's high-end? Maybe beat Nvidia to making GPU's smaller than 28nm?

This is what I think of Pre-Ordering video games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp98SH3vW2Y

Knowing them, it is probably just another one of their puzzle pieces. As I see it, they like to do their R&D on the market. Just to clarify what I mean, they will probably experiment and try to perfect some new stacked memory and it's development will be partially financed by Toshiba because AMD doesn't have that much money for R&D and in the end, AMD will implement it in their APU's, CPU's, GPU's and maybe even new ram but that is really stretching it. The other option is that I am just delusional because I haven't slept yet and it's like 7:30 in the morning here so who knows, we'll see.  :D

Do you guys actually think AMD will start to make their own ssd? I know it's early and everything to assume they are but would it be a good idea for them to do it?

http://www.fastestssd.com/featured/amd-planning-to-make-its-own-ssd-line/

I don't see why not.  They already make RAM; the R7 entertainment series RAM, R5 casual series RAM, and R9 Gamer series RAM.  So I don't see why they wouldn't try pushing into the flash-memory market.

Think they are trying to achieve a better system harmonious system. I mean they are already pushing RAM disk pretty hard with their memory. If we see tangible performance increase whether it be straight up more performance or energy reduction or longer SSD life because of more intelligent writing when paired with an AMD chip set this could be pretty cool. But if it's just a normal SSD well the market is already saturated think it will be a poor investment cause I don't see anyone but AMD faithfuls buying it.

My Rig "Corsair air 540, MSI Z87-G45, i5 4670k, EVGA ACX 780, Gskill sniper 2x8gb 1866 memory, Corsair CX500m modular 80+ bronze, corsiar h100i, toshiba 1.5tb HDD." / Peripherals "Acer H226HQLbid Black 21.5" (Main monitor), Acer S200HLAbd Black 20" (auxiliary), Razer blackwidow ultimate 2013, razer naga 2013, razer goliathus 444x355 speed edition, Sennheiser HD8 DJs"

They definitely won't, but they may slap their logo on someone else's.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Great, so we'll have overheating, power hungry SSD's now! Great! Just kidding, just go with other companies though. AMD will never make it far in the storage market.

if they make good ssd why not but if it is just for the point of making cheap ssd to try to survive it's pointless

If I had the money to throw around, sure I would do it. ^_^

I bet 20$ they catch on fire or melt or something weird like that.

Ketchup is better than mustard.
