they're both very differently priced 

but the best choice there is M8

Either one is fine, if you are fine with contracts & love good build quality, get the HTC One M8

Don't want a contract/could care less about build quality/want official google updates, get the Nexus 5.

However I'm pretty sure there are some GPE conversion threads for the HTC One M8 if you are fine with rooting and all that stuff.

The M8 is like Nutella. The best thing that ever happened to us.

You can get two Nexus 5 for the price of a single M8. Other than that I'd get the Nexus 5 for stock Android so that I'm sure I'll get quick and timely software updates for the longest time possible.
