How overpriced is alienware? Price comparison

Mao_Zedong

I addressed that in the first section, this is my quote "I have custom desktops, but if you want a prebuilt, just add around $100 for ncix."

Yeah sorry jumped the gun there, I wonder what the labor cost for an alienware actually are, probably around the $10 to $20 mark because its a prebuilt and not custom.

When I first started PC gaming I thought there systems were god like. God I was wrong. They don't even offer GPU cooling on their most expensive PC and 8gb of ram is laughable.

Case:Define R4 | MOBO:ASRock z75 Pro 3 | CPU:i7-3770k 4.0GHz | CPU Cooler:H100i | GPU:970 Strix | RAM:Hyper X 16GB |

I would buy an Alienware desktop, only to rip out the parts and put in my own. Their cases look great (if you like that aesthetic).

But only if I had money to throw away.

One annoying thing and I don't know if it's still like that but a while ago the Alienware cases were really annoying to work with. They're were not designed to build in by end users who like to have space for things. They were apparently designed to be built by people who have cut their hands on chassis so often that they're not covered in rugged leather. Really annoying to work in - but looks good once it's done.

Apparently the Alienware Alpha is supposed to be reasonably priced, guess we'll see.

I like them, so what if they are over priced, though I probably would not buy their desktops, I do actually like the aesthetics. I still like their laptops though

Well, this isn't exactly unknown. And RGB keyboards are just gimmicky. Sorry, but I think they are.

They may be gimmicky but they're f*cking awesome!

The amount of looks I get when I crack my m18x out at lans is immense. The lighting is amazing, pointless, yes but its sexy as hell. And also it reacts in games, for example when playing BF4 its white if you get shot it flashes red, and if you have low health it pulses read and slowly goes white as your health goes up. Even my friends who have seen it a few times always remark on it.

One of my favourite pieces of kit ever. I do not regret spending the money it was.

I did a review of it in members reviews if anyone wants to read it. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/170701-the-alienware-m18x-review/ this review is based on the machine after owning it for 2 years

It does it out of the box. It works in a lot of games. Alienware have pre-built in profiles for 90% of games

I have an m18x please don't kill me

I got it used at a great price.

And yes, the keyboard lights helped me overclock to 4.4GHz.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Alienware Laptop = Why would you buy a laptop that is heavy and has a high chance of overheating?

Alienware Desktop = Why don't you build a PC yourself?

Fixed it for you...

For $4416 i can get in my country beast killer pc!!! that can keep me satisfied for 25 years, i'm 99% sure!! maybe even more.

And i really don't understand why people will spend more than 2,500 $ for Gaming PC. I'm pretty sure that they can make a killer PC for 1,500 $. If i'm mistaken, sorry!.

The laptops don't overheat. They are overpriced, but don't really overheat. I have my 2920xm OCed from 2.5GHz to 4.4GHz, and both GPUs OCed, and the temps are more than acceptable. I have not even re-greased since i got the laptop, as I bet theyd be even lower with some nice IC diamond.  Best part is it's not really loud.

I don't know. I liked some of the older ones with the fins a bot, but I'm not so sure about the newer ones. They are all kinda way too deep and not tall enough for me.

My m11x is a 1.3ghz CPU that is OCed to 1.7

I'm so glad I got mine. Never would have paid for it new, but it's really comfortable at 18.4", the keyboard is pretty good for typing (great for gaming, but I type more. Either way my wrists love me), the screen is great, and of course the HDMI input. I'll be adding in 780ms or 880ms at some point hopefully.

I almost bought a clevo new, which was not a bad choice, but I'm glad i chose this.

The 880m is a great deal faster then the 7970m, but I wouldn't say it's quite time for you yet, those are close to the 680ms.
