Gaming PC (no editing) ~$1500 USD

unohakme
Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

First of all, a huge "Thank you!" to anyone who replies here.  This will be my first build, and I'm feeling a *little* overwhelmed with all the options.  Looking for advice on how to get the best bang for my buck!

1. Budget & Location
California, USA
$1500

2. Aim

I'll be using this computer for current and future-generation gaming, preferably at max or very good quality settings.

3. Monitors
I'd like to run two monitors.  One for gaming on, the other to have other content (video, web) up at the same time.  I assume that this budget is far below (like, 30% of) what's necessary for a 4k rig, so something that could support 1440p for at least the main monitor would be ideal.  Suggestions on monitors welcome, and I'd like if they can be included in the budget.

4. Peripherals
No OS or peripherals needed.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I have an Alienware PC from a few years ago and it's starting to struggle with some games.  Tends to run hot and noisy too!  So upgrading now and selling this one off.  Building from components because that gives more money to work with on component quality.  Wish I'd done it before, but I didn't know enough then (and still might not now.  eep.)

Thanks again in advance!

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I can go over by a little if the rig wouldn't run the monitor with the cost included.

I'd like to stick near 1500 for everything, though, if possible.

It's a bit of a trade off because if you want two monitors included in the price you'll be getting a cheaper graphics card which may not be able to push two monitors.

Ok, then what would cover them both?

Best I could do, considering budget. If you wanted 2 1440p monitors, you would be looking at approximately 2 grand.

Thanks!

Second monitor doesn't need to be 1440 since I'll mostly be doing side-tasks on it.

This looks good to me.

Question, though: What's the difference (other than price) between the Mobo you have here and the one which Dragoon posted above?

It had the best reviews on PCPartPicker. And it's fast enough for gaming anyway.

I guess that then.

well he can pick this

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crossover-monitor-27qdledblade

but many will rave about the PB278Q

PB is not pre calibrated

only the PA is and the PA is more expensive as it has a bigger color depth

Looks good, but would it be possible to downsize the HDD to put a little more toward the GPU?

The next step up would be to add another 290 for cf. That's quite a bit more than just downsizing the hdd.

Ok, wasn't sure whether the 290 was currently capable of upgrade (to 300 presumably) or if it'd have to be CF.
