Best I could do, considering budget. If you wanted 2 1440p monitors, you would be looking at approximately 2 grand.

Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($86.38 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card  ($372.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($85.87 @ Amazon)
Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27.0" Monitor  ($476.99 @ B&H)
Total: $1638.07
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Ok, looking to combine the pieces I like from both of these builds.  Do either of you see a problem with this setup?

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

The red graphics card/ram and blue motherboard is awkward. Stick with what I suggested and just get a smaller hdd if you want to.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

I think I'll do just that.

Thank you all for your help!  Most active forum I've been on in a while and lots of great suggestions to look through.

Much appreciated. :)
