Hey guys , So .. im going straight for the point , My Grandpa wants to buy me a new pc , beacuse when he asked me to help him with his taxes online and it took forever , so when i talk with my parents they said that i dont need a "PC for games". And they spend 1500 and 2000 dollars on iMacs and Macbooks Pros and iPads and Iphones (what can i do) to be on facebook "working".

 

And today i talked with my grandpa and said that my parents didnt want me to buy a new pc and then my grandpa simply said , No you will buy a new pc beacuse its simply stupid they spend 1500 dollars on a iMac to be on facebook so just tell me what you want and i will buy .

 

So .. im kinda .. i dont know if i go with my grandpa i get a 1500 pc and be happy , and then if i go with my parents i get shit and be unhappy as fuck but then again its kinda "my house my rules" kinda of thing .

The logical decision seems to be to let your Gramps buy a PC for you, seeing as he actually wants to buy the PC for you.

Step 1: Build your case bruh! Explain to your parents how much a PC will help out with school work or something :P. It does actually, especially when you hit uni.

Step 2: Parents convinced? Take grandpa up on offer and you better not abuse his trust/wallet.

Its IMPOSSIBLE , when i mention the word PC they simply said NO. And then they said to me if you want i will get you a Macbook Air , and i was like WTF. Do you really think i want that piece of grabage?

in all seriousness i just got 700$ from graduation and spent it on a gaming pc against my dads wishes and then got a job and just got my first paycheck and putting another 500$ into it. again agaisnt his wishes. as long as ur 18 and have a job i would worry. most parts threaten just to get u to do what they want but when u do what u want they will be fine either way. its like a guilt trip in a way. btw once i built my own pc my dad now loves that i actually learned something somewhere :lol:

Secondly, tell your GRAMPS to talk to your parents and if it works out make sure you use your PC wisely and then maybe they can see how wrong they were..

So why do they want you to have a mac anyway? Ask them the real reason. The most likely case, will be that they are afraid of being "hacked" or getting "viruses" and thing the Apple stuff are not vulnerable. That coupled with how they most likely ate the BS someone fed them about how Macs are for "professionals" and better than Windows PCs  for "work".

 

Honestly, I'd get the grandfather to buy the PC anyway, it's not your parent's money, they don't get to say anything on the matter. Sure it's their house, but it's "your" stuff. That's like if they decided you weren't allowed to have colored sheets for your bed, only white sheets, they are being unreasonable.

People need to stop acting like their being offended gives them some sort of special right, it doesn't, you have the right to be in a pissy mood and thats it.

 

For instance, I found a statement in the last WAN show about America to be slightly offensive, but did I complain? no, I said FRIGGIN CANADIANS, cursed the NSA for making people hate us more, then remembered that Beiber is actually a Canadian so what do I care? I'm not going to go on a "ban LTT from youtube11!!!1!!!!1" rant because

A. it wouldn't happen because Linus is too awesome to be banned, the computer wouldn't let them ban him, they'd click ban and a message would pop up that just says "no"

B. I have no right to, what was said might have bothered me, but they have every right to express themselves, even in ways I find offensive.

For instance the Redskins name, no one has any right to make them change it, even the patent office will lose (again actually) on cancelling their patent because the patent office has no legal authority to decide on what is and is not offense, they tried the same thing in the 90's and that's how the judge ruled. Tell your parents that most of the business world, and in fact most of the computing world, disagrees with them. That the products they buy are over-priced and pointless. If they say "my house my rules" point out that, that is an entirely illogical and invalid statement. They have given you no legitimate reason (my house my rules is not a reason, it's an illogical and inane statement) for their "rules" and any child psychologist would point out (and this is true) that "because I said so" is the absolute worst argument you can use with a "child"

 

It shows that you do not respect the child enough to explain your reasons to them, that you simply want them to do what you say and not think or be logical. My parents have done that for years with me and my sister, and I continue to ignore them. They ask why I don't respect "their rules" and I answer, "because you don't respect me enough to even try to justify your rules with actual logic and reason, so why should I?"

 

In essence, tell them what they're saying is "because reasons"
