AMD Cards With Intel Processors?

Hey guys, I was wandering if you could combine an Intel processor like the Intel i5 4690K and an AMD R9 290x Graphics Card and would they work together? Thanks.

If there would be any difference between an Intel and AMD chip, the Intel chip would actually allow the graphics card to perform better because of having PCIe 3, whereas AMD FX CPUs only support PCIe 2.  Other than that, it is more of a software issue involving the drivers, so there will be no difference between an AMD or Intel CPU there.

Well at one point, I thought AMD GPUs would work better with AMD CPUs.  None of the companies do to much to either spread or destroy the rumors, and they go both ways (that's what she said).

Because AMD makes both GPU's and CPU's, therefore AMD hates Intel so it's incompatible. Geez it's like I have to explain everything to everyone...

Main rig - Intel CPU + AMD GPU's

2nd rig - AMD CPU + nVidia GPU's

3rd rig - AMD CPU + AMD GPU

4th rig - Intel CPU + nVidia GPU

 

Everything works just fine.....I'd like to know what gave you the idea that they don't. :unsure:

Not only does it work but it is what I'd recommend for the 290X.  If you're gonna get a badass flagship video card like the 290X you might as well combine it with a flagship Intel CPU like the 4790K!  Not that you really NEED it, its just a really great processor.  AMD is just seriously behind in CPU tech right now (but if you didn't want a video card at all and were going to go with onboard graphics then its hard to go wrong with an AMD APU...

The current difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is quite small. also not the best argument for which CPU is better.

Graphics card don't even fully utilize PCIe 2 yet, so that would make no difference.
