Internet Explorer and LTT

cthomas1489

So I might be in the small crowd here... but I use Internet Explorer a lot (IE 11 on W8.1) and LTT just doesn't completely work within it. I can post, but I can't quote or insert anything or do much anything else and it often freezes, and I'd like to know if that's just the way it's gonna be or...

Please don't tell me to use other browsers, I do use other browsers, it's just I use IE too and noticed this.

Also, apologies if this has been mentioned before.

The site probably just isnt optimized for it, I can safely say 95% of the audience of this site wont use IE, so why optimize for it?

me best guess is that the site was just never really tested on IE. or maybe IE just handles forums poorly. If you want I can hop on IE and see how well it works to see if its IE, or just your end.

I'm actually really impressed with IE11. Yeah if someone wants to hop on it and try it out that'd be great.

Try clicking the link button, then hitting cancel. I get stuck with the pop up.

Try clicking quote. Doesn't work either.

I just switched to IE11 for you, and can confirm that the link button popup gets stick.

Quote works for me.

As a web developer, I can assure you IE is still annoying to develop for, and while I usually have to make minor changes to accommodate other browsers sometimes, I have to nearly rewrite everything for IE.

While any good website is made with all browsers in mind, I assure you beside government and office intranets, chrome or firefox will give you the maximum compatibility, and deliver updates automatically to keep with the latest web standards.

If you truly want to use IE, use this bb code to link-

Just for you, I am using Internet Exploder (11) right now (W7) and it seems to be working fine. Other people have mentioned similar issues with other browsers in W8.1 so it's possible that there's a bug somewhere that is causing issues with 8.1.

This is a bug with IP.Board, the forum software that they're using, rather than a specific issue for this forum.

This should probably have been posted in the bugs and issues thread.

I use IE11 too and have the same problems, don't see the point in DLing something else when this is the only site I go to that has issues, otherwise it works fine for me.

The workaround for now is to click the switch at the top left hand corner of the reply box, this will turn it to pure text and allow you to use the reply button but to insert images and links etc. you have to manually put them in with [ IMG ] [ /IMG ], [ URL ] [ /URL ], etc.

Edit: Said right hand corner meant left :)

They should block the acces to ltt for internet explorer :D

Its probably that like 98% of LTT users use another browser, so why optimize it.

Just a heads up, sometimes IE blocks javascript from the get go. I had some issues with that when doing alpha alpha alpha testing for some features on my site.... And I think the quote buttons and what not are probably javascript... Just clicked quote, definitely javascript. You might wanna check that setting.

I am good at computer

I tired it in 7 and had the same issues. It might be simply blocking javascript?

I just turned Internet Exploder (11, W7) into paranoid mode (high security) and javascript really was blocked then, but then clicking quote linked to the advanced reply page, where the quote was prefilled in the form. I imagine that it's the same javascript error that some other people were having, which you should be able to view by pressing F12 then Ctrl+2 (ideally before loading the page) and try again. I would expect to see errors logged (there will be warnings and info anyway). It's not specifically an IE issue, but the cause of it is as yet unknown.

try to use BB codes on text edit if the buttons aren't properly working for you, on the other hand probably needs an update on flash/shockwave and java. Try them & post back if you still have the issue

He uses a touchscreen laptop and IE has nice touch support.  Just my conclusion guessing though.

Actually, as he explained on the WAN show a few weeks ago, it's because he's lazy and goes through so many laptops that he can't be bothered to install another browser, and doesn't have much reason to despise IE (in other words, he's not a developer).

Use Chrome. Period.

Or Firefox. Full stop.

I read that, I was just trying to convince you with a direct approach. If I was illiterate, how could I have possibly wrote an answer ? The illogicality (Yes, I like to invent words) is strong within this one.
